FS and Windows won't detect CH USB pedals and yoke...

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,Well, for Christmas this year, I got the dual joy of CH Products' USB Flight Yoke LE and USB Pedals. I have been playing around with them, and didn't like the level of response when near neutral and giving small inputs. It was just too darn sensitive, so I searched the forums and found that CH Control Manager would fix it. Here is where my problem begins:I plug in my devices, and Windows (and therefore FS) detect it fine under Game Controllers under control panel. I go into Control Manager and click claibrate and I watch my devices disappear from the Game Controllers menu! At first, I thought they were just totally gone, but CH Control Manager still detects them. That's when I discovered that they are under their own category, called CH Products, in Device Manager (you know, like Display Adapters, Floppy Disk Drives, etc.). When this happens, FS can't detect the yoke and pedals and so I have no controls! Why does CH Control Manager change windows' assignment of the devices? I've searched and read EXTENSIVELY on the forums but have found nothing other than cases to show it DOES work! I did notice that most people were using Control Manager 2.XX but that is no longer available and I have 3.0.I would GREATLY appreciate ANY help at all! Thanks!-Cal

" Why does CH Control Manager change windows' assignment of the devices? "Because the new virtual CH CM device can do more than the actual controls themselves, all put together. Actually the CHCM device is described by the mapfile, and you can create maps to do who knows how many possible actions in countless ways. For instance in a flightsim called Rowans' Battle of Britain, I used to have a map where flipping one hatswitch made the canopy open (to slow down airspeed), next a pause (waiting for the canopy), then head leaned out the window (to see the runway), the landing wheels deployed, and flaps extended. Easily programmed with the handy little CH CM GUI :?). Try doing that with manual changes in a game's assignment menu, or FSUIPC, or another such toy, :?).You got the right stuff, once you learn how to use it, its great!Useful CH CM icons: Off Mode, Seperate Devices Mode a.k.a. "Direct Mode", Mapped Mode, and the Download icon (and the Wizzard icon to automatically create a basic simple map with default assignnments already set). I cannot calibrate with CM in mapped mode, so I click the icon to make Windows see the seperate actual devices instead of the map (direct mode icon), and then calibrate every axis, and then click back into the to mapped mode, and then click the "download" icon, ...then Bingo FS2004's menu now reports (in the control assignments area) that rudder, throttle, mixture etc. are now being controled using the "CH Control Manager Device Number 1", (which means FS2004 is now using my map) instead of using the seperate actual devices "CH Pedals USB", "CH YOKE USB", etc. If I click the Direct Mode icon, the map is no longer seen by Windows, and instead Windows sees all the seperate devices, in your case the CH yoke, and rudder as seperate devices.I have a FlightStick USB, Throttle USB, and Pedals USB and not a yoke, otherwise I could email a map, but probably avsim or flightsim.com library has somebody's FS2004 CH map for yoke and pedals...

Thanks AlbatrossR. Your post cleared somethings up in terms of how it all works. I think I've narrowed my problem down actually. What is going on is that Control Manager won't let me select direct or mapped modes. I click on direct and/or mapped and the blue highlight (which is what I noticed) doesn't switch! Even if I hit download, Off mode remains highlighted. Any more help on this would be great and I'd really appreciate it! I sent an email to CH Products, but if I can get help sooner, I would LOVE to start flying again. Thanks!-Cal

http://home.att.net/~stickworks/Link to Bob Church's site (he wrote the CH CM program, himself) and from there you can drop him an email). He is also known as Saint Sticky for all the help he as given simmers on joystick issues. I predict he can fix you right up.I just noticed an interesting utility there too for CH yoke and pedals when used with FS2002, wonder if work under FS2004, too??
