FS9 with ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Featured Replies

Ok,I'm running a 2.28, 768mb DDRAM, 80 gig harddrive, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb. How can I get the best out of it? I have updated drivers and everything. What settings in the advanced tab would give me the best quality and performance?CW

I have a 9800 in my 2.8 GHz P4 and I have to leave the autogen at zero, the clouds at 40NM, and the AA and AF filters one notch from the max in order to get my desired 30 frames per second. When I run the Mad Onion 3D 2001 SE test I see 200-300 frames per second on some of those tests and a fantastic image. My test scores are in the mid 15,000s. Trouble is that program does not have to figure out all of the other things necessary to run a flight simulation. All it is doing is playing video. The 9800 card can take everything your computer can send to it and more. Will the performance be good? Hard to say since FS2004 like all other versions that came before are CPU dependant. That means in order to be able to display all of the fancy stuff in the program (all sliders to the full right position) you will need a more powerful computer chip than is already on the market. Possibly a 4 to 5 GHz chip will be enough computer power. By the time they come to the market, we will be flying FS2006 or FS2008.Just set all of your settings on both the 9800 and FS2004 to the max positions and then start backing off each setting one at a time till your get the desired performance for your computer.Terry

Max everything out under D3D and OpenGL tabs in your control panel. The 9800Pro can handle it just fine. In the FS9 settings, under the hardware tab, set mipmap slider on 4. Otherwise, everything else can be pretty much maxed out. The only thing that is really hard on your CPU is the AirTraffic. Try that slider on low at first and then move it up till you have problems. Suggest you check out the FAQ section pasted at the top of the FS forums for other suggestions.http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...mID8/36803.html
