February 23, 200422 yr I am going to be building a new comp soon, and as for the motherboard, what would be a good one, my choices are from Asus, is it really worth the money to get the best one? P4C800-E-DX? or would the P4S800 (Cheapest one) do just as good of a job or should I go for something in between, I won't be using the onboard audio or NIC, so those dont matter , it just have to at least 6 USB ports, and 4 slots for RAM.
February 24, 200422 yr Well, I'm sure you will hear one of each now LOLI have the P4C800E Deluxe and am very happy with it. Only about $46USD more than P4P A couple of good upgrades in there I think..If you don't have the specs side by side to compare, here they are:Asus P4P800 Deluxe- Specifications -Supported CPU: Socket 478 Pentium 4/Celeron Processors Chipset: Intel 865PE + ICH5R FSB: 800/533/400MHz RAM: 4x DIMM support Dual Channel DDR400/333/266 Max 4GB IDE: 2x UltraDMA 100 up to 4 Devices; 2x UltraDMA 133 by VIA 6410 up to 4 Devices, RAID 0/1/0+1/JBOD Slots: 1x AGP 8X/4X, 5x PCI Ports: 2xPS2,1xCOM,1xLPT,1xLAN,1xSPDIF Out,2xIEEE1394(Rear 1),8xUSB2.0(Rear 4) Onboard Audio: AD1985 6-Channel CODEC Onboard LAN: 3COM Gigabit Ethernet Onboard SATA/RAID: 2x Serial ATA 150, RAID 0/1Form Factor: ATX Asus P4C800E Deluxe- Specifications -Supported CPU: Socket 478 Pentium 4(HT)/Celeron Processors Chipset: Intel 875P + ICH5 FSB: 800/533/400MHz RAM: 4x DIMM support Dual Channel DDR400/333/266 Max 4GB IDE: 2x UltraDMA 100, 1x UltraDMA 133(RAID 0/1/0+1) up to 6 DevicesSlots: 1x AGP 8X, 5x PCIPorts: 2xPS2,1xCOM,1xLPT,8xUSB2.0(Rear 4),1xLAN,2xIEEE1394(Rear 1),Audio Ports Onboard Audio: AD1985 SoundMAX 6-Channel CodecOnboard LAN: 3COM 10/100/1000Mbps EthernetOnboard SATA/RAID: 4x Serial ATA(2 of them support RAID 0/1/0+1)Onboard 1394: VIA 1394 ControllerForm Factor: ATX
February 24, 200422 yr I was thinking the Deluxe was well, just what way it gives the newest stuff, and for me its only about 90$ (CAD)
February 25, 200422 yr Nothing better than the P4C800 Deluxe for P4's and the Canterwod chipset. It is arguably the fastest motherboard for Intel cpu's at the moment.MikeP4 2.4C @3.44 285FSBAsus P4C800 Deluxe1gb Corsair XMS PC3500 Asus V9950 FX5900 Ultra 256mb 500/950SB Audigy2 Platinum ExWatercooled baby!!!Pics: http://community.webshots.com/user/chksix2002
March 7, 200422 yr yep. p4c800 deluxe is the way to go. stable, fast, i can't compare it to the others, but i know a friend who has problems with epox, and i don't know anyone who has much higher framerates than i do (taking in consideration my gpu and cpu)...
March 10, 200422 yr go for the 865 chipset it's a pretty good bang for the buck the 875 chipset adds $20 tot he price tag. Unless..you need the extra 2 or so frames per second.
