Can someone please tell me what this term means? I'm looking at new CPU,s, and the most expensive ones include this term. Would one of these be effective with my K7S5A MB? JamesJ

Actually, "Barton" refers to an AMD processor. It is the follow on architecture to the "Thoroughbred". The Barton has double the L2 Cache (512) of the Thoroughbred. Also, the Barton is designed with either a 333 or 400 Mhz FSB (Front Side Bus). The fastest FSB of the Thoroughbred processors is 266.Hope this helps,

I use the same mobo. According to the book, the K7S5A can take up to an Athlon XP 2000+ at 266mhz FSB. The Bartons run too fast for it. The XP2000 can be hard to find these days but you can still find them new on some online computer stores or used on eBay.

Thanks for the reply, I already have an AMD XP2400 running on this, was looking to improve on that without changing the MB..guess i can forget it..JamesJ
