March 10, 200422 yr ...If so...~What MB are you using with it?~How is stability, and with what O/S?~Has anyone installed it with Win98SE?~If the MB has integrated sound, how would that compare to other cards, like the SBLive Value?~How has it improved your MSFS performance?I'm shopping for a new MB/CPU combo to replace my current P3 based setup. I've been an Intel user since the 8086, but I'm willing to choose what fits best, especially for MSFS. However, when it comes to speed vs. stability, stability wins out for me. My current setup, ancient as it is, is very stable and provides hour after hour of crash free simming, both with COF and with older versions of MSFS. Also, for what it's worth I'm not interested in overclocking... The '64 has caught my attention only because it seems well positioned for Microsoft's 64-bit O/S release, and I'm obviously looking at an O/S upgrade soon. Matching the cpu to the most advanced O/S seems a wise move, but also the 3200 seems a fair price vs. Intel's more expensive offerings.Thoughts?Regards,John
March 17, 200422 yr I guess I'll field this one seeing nobody eles has yet.I was thinking the same things you were so I asked my computer repair guy. He said that the Athlon64 was moving too quickly. New ones were comming in at lightning speed while other 64bit lines were being pulled from production. Basically, the CPU is evolving too quickly for its own good. People that had top of the line systems can no longer upgrade as processors and connectors (such as PCI and the 700 some odd pin CPU slot) are being replaced.I would wait a while for three reasons.1. Until Intel releases its new Pentium- competition will drive prices down.2. More 64 bit programs come out- So far only Windows XP and Mac OS X have 64 bit capabilities. There are only a few programs right now that do, mostly for Macintosh.3. Component Market to stabalize- Wait for PCI Express and the new CPU slots to become mainstream.
