Rudder pedals help??

Featured Replies

Hi thereDoes anyone know of any good rudder pedals to use with a PFC CirrusII PCATD? I have some old CH-ProPedals which work but they are _WAY_ over-responsive and I can't find any way to scale them back. On the other hand, I have some Hoffman SimPed Varios and I can't get the CirrusII to detect them at all...Thanks for any help,Billy

Hi Billy,Can you scale back the sensitivity of the CH pedals in your program? What are the Simped pedals, gameport or USB, and what is the PFC Cirrus?Den

Hi DenBoth of the pedals are gameport pedals, and they plug in to a gameport input plug at the back of the CirrusII.The CirrusII uses a COM port connection to the PC. They apparently come in USB forms but even then I believe the USB port has to emulate a COM port...There doesn't seem to be any way to scale back the sensitivity of the pedals within the software. In the MSFS2002/2004 interface you can tinker with the response curve, but even at its most non-linear the sensitivity to small movements is large. Makes it basically impossible to taxi or takeoff without oversteering all over the taxilanes and runways. We may need new pedals, or specifically PFC branded pedals, but we're reluctant to go that way - for one thing I would imagine that pedals are pretty generic. I would also not want to go through the cost and delay (I am in New Zealand, so would have to import them!) of getting the branded pedals only to find they have the same limitation.I have put a similar question to the PFC tech support but I'm still waiting for a response. Thanks for your interest. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Billy

Hey Billy,Running the stuff through a COM port is something new to me, at least with a yoke. That must where the sensitivity problem is coming from.Do you have a soundcard in the computer, or a built in gameport? I am wondering if you could somehow run the pedals through the separate gameport connection, preferably the Simped ones since they seem to have much more control in their response. I had thought of getting a pair of them once, because they sounded so good, but I never did. How is that for a crazy idea :)Will keep thinking!Den

PFC Tech Support have advised me (promptly) that the CirrusII is designed for use with PFC pedals... The pedals I have are not wired the same way or are inherently oversensitive. So I guess I'm in for a pedal upgrade ;-)Thanks to anyone who read or responded

Thanks DenI did try that idea initially (the SimPed rudders through the joystick port independently of the CirrusII) but was unable to assign the rudder control. I have learned a bit since then, though, and might take another look at how that could work. We'll probably have to buy some supported pedals...For use with a regular joystick or yoke I can recommend the SimPeds. If they are still making them I imagine they have toe-brakes and USB support. Our ones date to 98 or 99, maybe earlier, but they still have a nice feel with a solid well sprung swinging action.Cheers,Billy

Well Billy,I guess that is one way to sell some pedals, but it must be one of those things that has to be!I hope that it is a better way, and not some malicious engineering :)Some day when I hit the lottery, I may go for a set of the Simped.I am still in the world of gameport, so it would be a big $$$ upgradeto replace everything, especially my VMAX Saab340 yoke to a USB.Hope that it turns out great :)Cheers to you,Den
