RAM or VIDEO CARD???

Featured Replies

Hey guys: My system is quite old but still good enough for FS2002 when I set for 640 * 480. But then I started play FS2004 and uninstalled fs2002. The problem is it takes ages to show up textures. for example, when u change view mode to outside of the airplane, the model of the aircraft and whole airport shows up first but NO TEXTURES ON, therefore, I have to wait like 2 mins to wait for all texture be put on their position, during that time, my harddriver working hard all the time. Then u change back to inside and outside of airplane again, the same thing happen again, I dont want to fly any more if like that...........crying......... now, I got enough money for upgrade my computer, but only can buy one stuff, Ram or Videocard, here is my system, plz give me a suggestion to slove that problem.AMD XP 2200+256MB DDR PC2100Geforce 2 mx 100/200, 32mb video ram40GB HD

I'd go for the video card. You've got a decent CPU, and 256MB isn't bad at all.But that GeForce2 MX videocard is horribly outdated. I have a GeForce4, also outdated, but it handles all I've got quite fine, including MSFS2004. And my CPU is considerably slower than yours, an XP1800+ (1.53GHz). I've got 512MB RAM.In checking newegg.com, they list a Chaintech NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200-8X 128MB card (essentially what I have, though mine is a Gainward) for $111. AVOID the MX cards... they're "cheapies", and are far less capable than the Ti cards.A newer video card should deliver LOADS of improvement.Good luck! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/...y/xyxthumbs.gif

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003
