ATI Cat 4.7 vs. Latest Omega's?

Featured Replies

I recently had to reformat my hard drive (one tweak too many :-( ), and the tech that did the work installed the Cat 4.7 video drivers for my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 card. I had been using the latest Omega drivers, but had never tried the Cat 4.7 drivers. Can anyone tell me definitively if there is any advantage to going to the Omega's again (I'm a bit gunshy now to do too much screwing around on my main computer) in terms of performance in FS (or any other reasons)? Thanks very much for the assist. By the by, I did a quickie search on this subject, but there was nothing specific to this question and the Cat 4.7 drivers that I could locate. Thanks again.Glenn

Hi Glenn,Changing drivers might not be worth it for you at this time. Omega has a reputation for doing a fine job tweaking video drivers for better image quality. Fact is though, that ATI's Catalysts are very good in both IQ and performance. I use the Omegas because they are easy to install and remove, and because they don't require a seperate installation for the Control Panel. During the past few driver iterations I've tried both, and it's hard to see any clear advantage in either.Hope this helps,Greg

Many thanks Greg! That helps a bunch. I was hoping I could keep what I have to be honest. Thanks much once again,Glenn
