K8V SE MOBO & AMD 64 3200 PROBLEMS

Featured Replies

HELP!Just upgraded to a ASUS K8V SE Motherboard and new AMD64 3200.My system is running slower than ever. I'm only geting frame rates of 4-5fps at airports and 10-12 while flying. Can anyone familiar with this setup tell me what setting are needed in the Bios, Memery, or configuration to get it to run properly.I'm told it should be getting twice the fps'sI've tried everything. What about duel channel? is that's what needed with the AMD64 to get the better performance. If so is the ASUS K8V SE motherboard the wrong board to take advantage of dual channel??Any help would be appriciated.signed: frustatedThanks,Walt

The K8V does not take advantage of dual channel, because it is S754, only S939 mobo's take advantage of dual channel, but your problem most likely is you have not installed chipset drivers for the mobo. Install those then try running FS.

yeah dont worry about the lack of dual channel memory, i dont think that's your problem. the athlon64 3200 should be pretty fast in single channel. the 939's have the dual channel, but the 754 mobo chips usually have more cache to make up for the lack of dual channel. your cpu should still blaze through fs2004 pretty well. i think you obviously have some sort of driver screwed up, either for your mobo or CPU or something. go to the support forums at the mobo manufacturer's website and ask there.

Hey Walt.. I had that board and i too had some issues with it regarding frame rates.. but all got solved after reinstalling the newest possible drivers before everything else...About the dual-channel yes it is nicer, but this board is way capable to stand out with the onboard goodies..giving a solid performance.. had a nice setup between 25-40fpsBrianAMD64 3200 - MSI K8N Neo Platinum - ASUS RADEON 9800XT - SB AUDIGY 2 - 1GB CORSAIR XMS - RUNNING XP PRO ON A 320GB BUNCH OF SATA DRIVES

Install those then try running FS.Thanks for the concern,You were right the chipset drivers didn't install.Yes I finally got it figured out. Turns out that the K8V chipset driverswere not loading properly and I was merely running the game on the Windowsdefault drivers. This was caused because my MS-DOS or 16-Bit Windowsexecutions files were damaged. Microsoft gave me the fix solution and thechipset files were then allowed to load properly. (Apparently the Chipsetfiles are MS-DOS/16-bit programs.)Asus was unable to relate to the problem at all and only suggested that Ireformat all my drives and start over. I knew that was crazy because I hadinstalled many motherboards before. That's when I called the Microsoft 800number and they gave me a Microsoft Knowledge base article - 324767 thatprovided the solution. Thanks again,Walt
