How to install DirectX 9.0c?

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been covered before, but my search efforts (AVSIM and Google) haven't helped.I've got an older 'puter (P4, 1.8, 512mb, XP home) and I wish to install DirectX 9.0c. I downloaded a file described as DirectX 9.0c. When I unzipped it, I had a file called dxsetup.exe. The file number is 4.9.0.904. When I ran it, I ended up with a DirectX.cab file, 14.7 mb in size.Does this sound like what I should have? If so, where does the cab file go?I've spent a good portion of my day off trying to figure this on my own, and I'm feeling rather sheepish at my lack of success.Assistance will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

14.7Mb doesn't sound right. You can download the redistributable version here. Should be just under 35Mb.FYI, once you get it installed you can check the version number... should be 4.09.0000.0904.Hope this helps,GregP.S. You might want to get that other file off your computer. Don't know what kind of nasty it might hold.

Thanks, Greg.A new hurdle- when I attempt to install the redistributable, I get the "The software you are attempting to install has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify..." error message and the installation aborts. I'm not sure how to fix this.BTW, the cab file I had before is the same one in the redistributable.

Hmmm... worked for me. I just D/L and installed it just fine. 5 minutes, including download time.I clicked on the "Continue" button on the right side of the "Validation Recommended" bar, then checked the "No, do not validate Windows at this time, but take me to the download", clicked "Continue", then on the next page clicked "Download" and waited for the download window to open. Clicked on "OK" and it rocked and rolled onto my hard drive. Extracted to a location I browsed to and then clicked on the "dxsetup" icon. Followed the prompts and it was installed and ready to reboot after just a few seconds. Done deal.Good luck,Greg

Bump.Hoping for suggestions. Thanks.
