July 28, 200520 yr Hi,I ve just bought MSI 9800pro plus vga,and im happy with the resultsbut i think i can do better with it .i have zero experince with ATI so whats the best setting and teawks i can do to get this card to its highest level.i.e Best drivers,AA AND AF setting........etci have also heard about turning off the vertical sync and how much performance gain can that don.b its just for FS9Thanks
July 28, 200520 yr Hi,I just switched from a 9800 Pro. I had been using that card for more than two years. What a fantastic card! I bought it when it first came out and have only JUST had to replace it, even though I had used it for very demanding games other than FS9, like Far Cry and Half-Life 2.Because of my LCD, I used a resolution of 1600x1200, but even then, the card worked fine. No AA or AF though. With the sliders, I'd use around 60mi sight distance and the same cloud draw distance, with 100% detailed clouds. Most of the other sliders were at max. With a target frame rate of 30fps, I'd generally get 20-25fps in the air and just below 20fps when near airports with add-on scenery. The frame rates sound low but I find them to be still flyable (obviously, this is subjective). BTW, all this is with ActiveSky V and FS Real Time in the background and flying with the PSS Airbus (both the A32x series and the A330/A340) series.Hope this helps.Edwin
July 28, 200520 yr Thanks for ur reply but i was asking for the reccommended drivers for best performance and card setting and tweaks ,also were to find them.
July 28, 200520 yr I find the latest ATI Catalyst drivers to be best. I believe they are up to 5.7 now.Maybe I'm not understanding your question then. I thought I just provided you with the settings!Edwin
July 28, 200520 yr Thanks again for the quick reply,i now just have one problem:with addon aircrafts like PMDG737 AND LEVELD 767 im getting low and bouncing FPS (13-29)exactly like my old FX5200 ,while on default aircrafts im getting very high FPS (30-50) which is huge improvment than my old card im still using the CATALYST 4.3 drivers which came with default CD
July 28, 200520 yr Well, first of all, unless you are getting problems with the latest drivers, I'd recommend using them. That should help a bit. (Again, the latest drivers should be 5.7, available from the ATI Web site.)Secondly, I think this is likely an example of where FS9 scales more with CPU than with video card. The add-on aircrafts that you are using utilize CPU power and not your video card so your frame rates are being bottlenecked by your CPU (what CPU, motherboard and RAM are you using?). Unless someone else can think of something to try, I'm guessing there isn't much you can do about that, except to buy a new CPU (which usually also means getting a new motherboard and possibly new RAM as well).Edwin
July 28, 200520 yr my sys specs:P4 3GHZ512MB DDR(ONE SLOT I.E NO DUAL CHANNEL)MSI MOTHERBOARDMSI 9800pro plus 128mb vga
July 28, 200520 yr Get 1GB of RAM. Is the 512MB that you currently have PC2700 or PC3200 (or, god forbid, PC2400)? If PC2700, you should get two new sticks of 512MB each. If PC3200, you can try to just get an extra stick of 512MB.Besides that, I doubt there's much you can do (except, of course, buying a whole new system i.e. AMD Athlon64 CPU, nForce4 motherboard, PCI Express graphics card etc.)Edwin
July 28, 200520 yr I cant understand what PC2700 or PC3200 mean but all i know is that its 333 BUS AND its brand is SPECTECI have just downloaded the lastest OMEGA drivers better performance in the ADDON aircrafts but the bouncing FPS still annoyes me a lotother than that ITS SIMPLY AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME :I can stand at HEATHROW with MYTRAFFIC an VERY VERY HEAVY WEATHER loaded and still get 25FPS (AA 4X AND AF 4X)AMAAAAAAAAAZING CARD should i try to overclock it ,i ve never had luck with overclocking
