December 27, 200520 yr In January of this year I purchased a Leadtek Winfast 6800 GT graphics card from newegg.com (about $400). When I installed the card it wouldn't work, just a bunch of garbage on my screen. After about three weeks of haggling with Leadteks support I sent the card in for replacement and waited at least a couple of months to receive the new one. Apparantly from the way they talked they had quite a few of these cards that were defective. Last week I was holding for takeoff at DFW and all of a sudden my screen went blank and there was a loud screeching in my headphones. You guessed it. My $400 graphics card bit the dust. I installed an old Geforce 4 and got up and running again. I emailed Leadtek support but they haven't answered me (big suprise!). I don't know if the card is still in warranty but that sure is a big chunk of money (that I saved for months)to pay for a card that doesn't even last a year. Do I have any recourse? What do I do if they refuse to answer me?
December 27, 200520 yr Just keep after them.Forget trying to e-mail companies like this (almost never works), it's better to phone. If you arn't getting the answers you need from the techie on the phone don't hesitate to ask for somone higher up. Sounds like your card is still under warranty (based on it being a 1yr. warranty), heck they should've tacked on an extra couple of months for the period you didn't have your card.Check to make sure Leadtek doesn't have a longer warranty period. For example my BFG 7800GTX has a lifetime warranty attached (all BFG cards do).Good luck :)
December 29, 200520 yr many companies offer a 1 year or a 3 year warranty you should still be entitled to a replacement (after you get a hold of them.)
January 1, 200620 yr Thanks, I was finally contacted by a Leaktek technician and the card has a 3 yr warranty. Hope they can get it to work for more than 9 months this time.
