March 18, 200620 yr Question, I want to upgrade my memory (Dual Mem config).. but looking at all the different types out there, kinda drive me crazy. Some people recomend to get Corsair, and other say OCZ, now this last one i checked the reviews and it seems to be good, however kinda pricey, so would "High performance" memory mean a great boost over "Generic memory"..? And im not specific to fs, want to use for overall system boost for all types of games.
March 18, 200620 yr Hi Aziz, far from being a memory guru, but I'll give it a go... :-) IMHO, it's a waste of money to go for ultra low latency (ULL) memory and the most important factor is compatibility (perhaps consult your mainboard's compatibility listing?). If compatibile, you can usually adjust your timings and this will result in minimal differences between ULL vs standard mem. Since AMD64s have integrated memory controllers, all of this can be tricky. Older AMD64s for example, automatically reduced their FSB frequencies with more than 2 modules. Etc, etc. Last but not least, you'll probably only really appreciate more than 1GB of memory if your FS contains a lot of addons. A standard install will hardly take advantage of 2GB. BF2 - I hear - is another app which likes tons of memory. Hope this adds to thoughts, good luck and kind regards Jaap PS, another detail worth trying if you haven't done so yet, is changing the 'Command Rate' from 2T to 1T. Beware, certain configs don't like it all... :-) Although pretty time consuming, memtest86+ from memtest.org is a great app to test memory (at specific timings or in general).
March 20, 200620 yr Thanks Jaap, was trying to set those timings, but system not like it. Am going to check for some normal ram not that expensive ull overclock ram.
March 21, 200620 yr Hi Aziz, what was it which your system didn't like? And what happened? Blue screen, black screen, etc? When playing with RAM timings or alike, you might need to slightly increase the voltage (case your bios allows you do so). Good luck and kind regards Jaap
