Laptop Qs: CPU and Graphics Accelerator

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I am getting a laptop and was hoping for some advice on the technical end of the system. I was looking at a Dell latitude 620 with:Intel Core Duo 2500 processor (2.0 ghz) 14.1 inch monitor (WXGA+)2GB of ram 256MB NVIDIA

Hi Jamie,CPU wise you should be ok. The only downside of that laptop is that soundwise its not that great, but i guess when using headphones you wouldnt really notice. As far as the videocard is concerned, i dont think it'll be DX10 compatible, anybody correct me if im wrong but there's still nothing outthere. So as fs9 on medium settings maybe even high, but cant say for certain, would do just fine i doubt though it'll be good for fsx well atleast running that optimized with 10. Like you said, everybody is just guessing on fsx.All in all, they are nice laptops, running quiet and not producing alot of heat compared to other laptops, Long baterylife. But again..wait for some more replies so you can base your decision on those.

ok thanks a ton--do you know what you need for Direct X 10?

Well we've recieved a few software packages, explaning how vista would "advance" out IT dept. into the future. But not really giving any clear expl. about DX10 and things. Just a basic MS Infomercial..so still to early i guess.

Hi guys, IMHO, wait and see what happens. Unfortunately, notebooks aren't modular like desktop PCs. Right now, the risk of quickly becoming obsolete on the hardware front is pretty high. TurboCache and/or HyperMemory could indicate, the display adapter uses shared memory (aka system RAM). Although I don't know whether it's valid for notebooks too, in the desktop world it's likely better to get a normal display adapter without those technologies. Good luck and kind regards Jaap PS, DX10 will mainly require a DX10 compatible display adapter.
