new system Right Choice???

Featured Replies

Dear Friends,I am planning to order a new system.I have chosen the following specifications but i am not sure I made the right choice. I want the best performance available Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz Intel mainbord 975 chipset 2x 1 GB DDR2 RAM 667 MhzATI X1800 512 MB PCI-E500 WATT Power SupplyWestern Digital 36 GB 10.000 rpm 16 MB SATA HarddiskWindows XPDo you guys think I have chosen the correct components or do you think you know something better? Please let me knowKind RegardsKim

As always with upgrades these days, Just a few things you need to consider. I don't know what system you are upgrading from but here a little food for thought.1. do i want to do it now? With all the new goodies around the corner ,Do i want to run fsx later?2. if yes with fsx. Wait because the components you state will (probally, and most likely) not run fsx at its full potential, meaning with DX10.3.If you want to stick with Intel. Remember their Conroe chip will soon be available. (watch out with your choice of mobo. Check the socket you want) My opinion if you want to do it now go AMD, or wait for the Conroe. Current stats are Gaming = AMD Video editing = IntelBut with the conroe speculations it;ll probally be both Intel round that time 4.Your graphics card, is and will not be able to render DX10 (so far no cards on the market) The ATI X1800 and NVidia7600 (also not able to render DX10) are very close performance wise. The nice thing about the 7600 is that it is smaller, quieter and cooler. The X1800 is loud, and runs hot. If you do intend to get a card now get the 7600.5.Instead of getting one small fast drive, why not get two big drives and run in in a raid setup.?So in all your system would run FS9 quite good, FSX would yet again need an upgrade. In anycase haev fun with what ever system you decide to get :)
