How do you find a good joystick or yoke today?

Featured Replies

Is it just me, or is the market for yokes, and joysticks pretty screwed up?I have the sidewinder forcefeedback 2, and i have loved it from day 1. However it is getting older, and i doubt it will last forever.I would be willing to beg microsoft on my knees to start making joysticks like they used to, or a yoke. I dont know any other brand of yoke, or joystick that is a similar quality. It always does exactly what you tell it to do, and it never requires calibrating ever.I also believe it has a different technology than all other joysticks, and yokes i know. It uses optical sensors(i think) instead of potentiometers, or pots, which i believe is why it just is above the rest, when it comes to reliability, and precision.I'm looking for a replacement for my ff2, and i don't like what i have found on the market so far. I don't mind paying for good lasting quality. Here's the ones i've looked at so far, and why i don't like them:Saitek: x45 and x52I've read about WAY too many problems with bad buttons, bad quality pots, and bad software for all saiteks joysticks.CH products:I owned a yoke back when it was serial port, but it's the same design as today. I've also had a look inside it, and i certainly did'nt like what i saw. Very much oldschool type pots that are destined to become unreliable. Furthermore i do not like the plastic on plastic movements of the yoke.It really is time for CH to create a new line of yokes, using better technology and materials, i think.Logitech:Just not good enough.Hotas Cougar:Unreliable pots.Have to use the same amount as the joystick cost on a hall sensor mod to make it work proper. Just dont wanna do that.So what are my options? Are there good product i have'nt looked at?Am i wrong in my critique, and why?How can we convince microsoft to make a yoke in the same quality as ff2?

The AFCS-III USB Yoke and Throttle does look interesting indeed, and i would be willing to pay that amount for a quality yoke. The problem is just your gonna need a quality set of pedals as well, and they cost the same or even more. And then it's too much.I also think it's hard to find a good indept review for the yoke.

Well you get what you pay for (in most cases good things),like you said "I don't mind paying for good lasting quality" Get that set yoke and pedals and your good to go for a long time, no more plastic problems. Mind you, i dont know where you read the negative reports about the x45 as many users here have it and are happy with it, you dont see many people complaining here.Review yoke and throttle:AVSIM http://www.avsim.com/pages/1202/afcs/afcs.htmlFlightSim http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/afcs.htm
