New PC for FSX or new card ?

Featured Replies

I would like to try FSX but I need some advice as to what I should do with my system. I have a budget for a new card at about the $300 mark but would I be disappointed in the performance ? Is there any significant advantage in overclocking the chip ? Or perhaps more RAM would be needed ?Thanks in advance to any commentsAlyOS Name Microsoft Windows XP ProfessionalVersion 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600System Type X86-based PCProcessor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~2813 MhzProcessor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~2813 MhzBIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. Hi:There will be many new video cards coming out in a few months which have the capability to use Direct X 10. They will be expensive! These cards will show a great improvement if used together with the new Windows Vista. No specifications are available yet regarding hardware requirements to use these cards. I would wait until early next year to make any major investments in hardware, depending on your decision on whether to "vista" or not.In the meantime, memory is inexpensive now, so you might consider going to 1Gig or 2 gig main memory. You should see a boost from your present 512mb.....frank

HI Frank. I've got a Question probably you can tell me what you think about or what expirences are with FS X?My SYSTEM 1 GB DDR 2 RAM (533mhz CL4)3,6Ghz Pentium 4Gainward 6700 GT 256 MB TV PCI EXPRESS X 16Hard Disk 80 GBDo you think it will be enough to get a acceptable framerate without any delays from the System (Example: Flying through clouds)Thanks AJ

Thanks Frank for your reply. That all makes sense to me. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but my house got zapped by lightning!! Quite amusing really but my pc survived thanks to a safety switch'more than could be said for my ADSL box :) Thanks again
