October 27, 200619 yr Anybody ever seen third party software that can do the job of WinXP Device Manager ?My XP version stopped working when I updated to SP2 some time ago and it's a real pain not having it when something goes wrong on the system.BTW, I've tried every "fix" I can find recommended for this problem but nothing has done the trick yet. Can't even use my "restore" feature since. The SP2 update has done several nasty things to my system.. wish I would have just skipped it altogether now.
October 28, 200619 yr Hi Tom, this message almost destroyed my weekend! So sorry to hear. There's a pretty radical method which forces a rebuild of the OS without touching your files. You loose applications and drivers but the data remains intact. Have you tried something like this (if it is an option of course)? Pls excuse me if I don't remember the contents of the old thread on the subject, was the OS re-installation question raised? I wish you all the success you need, Tom, kind regards Jaap
October 28, 200619 yr Well, hello again Jaap, nice to hear from you..Wow, you remember my problem then.. that's something !No, I've not done anything that radical yet.. the closer we get to Vista replacement the less it seems worth messing with. And of course when things are running along without problems I don't even think about Device manager. You would sure think someone would have made one other than MS by now.
October 29, 200619 yr Ha! Vista reminds of BTO, 'You ain't seen nothig yet.' :-) I'll probably get a copy for whatever, but other than that I'm not really keen. Anyway, your troubles merit a solution, Tom. Is an OS re-build or re-install out of the question? Maybe you should try the other Avsim hardware forum as well? What do others think? Davis, the Gregs, Bill or anybody else, is Tom's system FUBAR? I'll cast a vote for t'is, sorry to say... :-( Cheers, good luck and kind regards Jaap
