November 6, 200619 yr Hello, Ive been getting fps of around 17-25 and they drop on occasion to 12 or even 10 for a few secs, I spent alot of money and time building and oc'ing the pc for fs9 and I thought I would have higher fps.DFI LanpartyUT NF590 SLI MCP M2R/GAMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ OC'd @2.6 (260x10)ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2 CPU Cooler2x G.Skill 1GB DDR2 800 at 433mhz (at DDR333 in bios)BFG nVIDIA 7950GT 5122x 160GB SATA300 Seagate HDD'sMaddog Lightscribe 16x DVD-RWOCZ 700 Watt OCZ GameXStream PSUIm running asv6.5, PIC 737-300 as a test plane in this situation, squawkbox, fs terrain, ge pro II, ultimate terrain usa, and the clouds are 128bit dxt3 in asg settings. Mesh complexity is at 60, water effects are at low, terrain texture is high, autogen dense, and scenery complexity normal, add on dynamic is off, mip quality is at 6, global texture is at high, harware lights 8, render to texture and transform and lighting is on, anti aliasing is off, filtering is trilinear, extended terrain texures checked, dawn/dusk blending checked, special effects high, all aircraft options checked, cloud coverage density is high, 3d cloud % is 100, draw distance is 60m, and sight is 100, with a resoultion of 1024x768x32 and frames to unlimited, changing the fps lock to say 22 has no effect and unlimited seems the best for me.I would appreciate any help, thanks.
November 6, 200619 yr MikeIt does sound a little low, although there is a lot of add-ons there. Just one question....how many FPS do you achieve at default Seattle in the default Cessna with absolutely no addons? Also how does your system perform with other software? Are you running any other programs in the background, such as AV, internet or Windows explorers, etc?I don't know what kind of prep you do before you boot FS9, but I always run a registry cleaner, O&O defrag, and shut down basically everything on the PC that is not FS9 related.Personally speaking, I found a greater improvement in tweaking drivers and running the likes of O&O defrag, registry cleaners etc than I ever did by tweaking game settings.I have an old Athlon 2200XP CPU with GF4Ti 128MB GPU, 1.28GB RAM & ATA HDD and can still achieve 35FPS at default settings in 1024x768x32.You have a great sounding set up, but just wondering if the CPU is a slight bottleneck with such a powerful GPU bearing in mind the FS9 engine being so CPU reliant.Regards,Scratch1964
November 6, 200619 yr Well at default sea with the cessna it might be from 50-70, and the preperations you have listed do not seem to have any effect on fs performance wise. In general the pc performs well in other apps. Thanks for the reply.
November 7, 200619 yr I figured out the problem, if I connect to squawkbox or fsinn the frames drop, if I then exit those programs the fps dont improve until fs9 is restarted.
November 8, 200619 yr Glad you figured it out. With my older, slower system I found a great benefit in stopping other programmes prior to booting FS9. When I ran a registry cleaner it made a world of difference to the way windows performed, not only in FS9 but everything else too. Perhaps my registry was somewhat less tidy than yours.Scratch1964
