November 11, 200619 yr I have noticed that my PC is showing that "This version of Windows XP is not genuine".This has gone on for around 6 weeks now.I went back to my retailer with my original windows xp disk and he is as mistified as I am. Is there any way round this? I am just wondering what will happen if I ignore it.Greatly appreciate any help, many thanks.Best Wishes,ChrisEGBB UK
November 11, 200619 yr Did you install XP or did it come PRE-installed? Are you sure that you have an Original XP disk and not a top of the line pirated copy. there is an article on the MS website how to identify it: http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspxThere are disks around you can hardly identify as copy. Is your retailer trustworthy? If your install key starts with FCKGW-RHQQ2-*** etc. thats the most well known pirated key copy. If you ignore it the only big things for now, is that you wont be able to download (critical)updates from Microsoft update. Best advice just contact Microsoft directly about this, if you can't resolve this with your comp vendor.
November 11, 200619 yr Thanks very much for your kind reply, it was a pre-installed system. The disk is genuine. My retailer has offered to re-install windows XP at no cost to me but it means I have to have re-install everything.I just wish there was a way round this.Best Wishes and many thanks,Chris
