February 1, 200719 yr Well, something got toggled but WHAT ?Never had this, never wanted this... any idea what happened or how to get rid if it ?Doesn't matter which video player or type of video, they now show real time info details over top like this;http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166127.jpg
February 2, 200719 yr Hey Tom,its related to the ffdshow filter... Look at the image, and UN-check that OSD option It shouldnt appear again.. hope that helps.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166136.jpg
February 2, 200719 yr Ahhhh, thanks :-)Now how did that get ticked to begin with ?? Must have been while I was trying to get videos running at all a while back... still don't have the answer, but dropping the hardware acceleration will let them run.. Some change when I went from ATI 9800 pro to the GeForce 7600GS video card. Or more likely, when I uninstalled some of the video software that came with ATI hardware. Always something looking to get you..Even my FS9 started the BSOD after a few minutes running.Nothing is easy to check since I went with SP2 and lost the use of my Device Manager. Can't check anything with ease without it.MS is NO help with it.. their site says they know about it, and even have a hotfix but can't get anywhere with their techs and they only say that most times it's virus/adware related. But not on mine. Thanks again,
February 2, 200719 yr Hehe your welcome, glad its sorted. Yeah i know, always the small things that make you so p*ssed and no clue what to start looking for. Hmm about your Dev manager, are you seeing an empty Dev manager?, or are you not even able to open it at all?
February 2, 200719 yr The Device Manager DOES run, it just will not populate the window with devices..Went through and tried all the offerings found in various forums but no go. Some said ,plug and play service off , security changes with sP2 need to reset permissions.. a couple of others I don't have in mind right now. Each had many others reply "HEY that fixed mine" so there is something to them, but not for me.After I saw MS had an issue page on the subject with hotfix available I wanted that but of course had to start from scratch with a tech help person.Only thing MS said to me was;----------------------Based on our knowledge Base, this issue can be caused by related service has not been started or spyware issue. Step 1: Check Services:==================== 1. Click Start->Run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.2. In the right pane, please check whether the following three services have been started:Plug and Play If not, please double click the service. In the tab "General ", make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic". Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start this service. If this issue persists, let us continue to the next steps. Step 2: Remove related spyware ==================== 1. Download aproposfix.exe from Swandog46's website saving the file to your Desktop. http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe -----------------------Next step was to send my system info file to him, but tech will not answer me again. Or will MS when I asked where the tech went. (Been over a month waiting on their reply BTW)
February 2, 200719 yr Hmm ok, im going to be in the office over the weekend, we will actually have some MS people coming over to setup some vista systems for us, will ask them about your issue. In the mean time if you havent checked this already in the registry. Goto: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{74246bfc-4c96-11d0-abef-0020af6b0b7a}InprocServer32Rightclick on "InprocServer32" and select permissions, check if the Administrators and System have full control and read permissions .Also check this:HKLMSYSTEMCURRENTCONTROLSETENUM.Your "SYSTEM account" must have full control permission set.
February 2, 200719 yr Yes, they both have full control & read assigned to them...Will be interesting to see what the MS guys have to say... if anything. One of the items sited by others as causing this problem was one of the older MS security hotfixes for SP2. Security update KB905749 Can't say that mine fouled up at that update or not as I don't use DM unless there is a problem. Think perhaps mine was gone before that security update.Saw that some were able to uninstall it and get DM showing devices again. However, here it come up as "can not UNinstall"Don't think it would make a differance, but FYI this is a retail version of XP home. Updated With SP2 when MS announced it would no longer support SP1. (I should have just stayed with SP1 when everything worked):-)
February 6, 200719 yr I'm getting the old feeling that the MS guys were of NO help with this DM problem :-(
February 6, 200719 yr >I'm getting the old feeling that the MS guys were of NO help>with this DM problem :-(Hey Tom, Just cam home now...But yeah well hate to tell you, pretty much got the same (excuse) of an explanation, pretty much all they came up with is the same things you can find in the MS kb's and online So yeah, NO help... Maybe best to gather up all you superpowers :( and do another fresh install Not the best sollution, but going round n round in circles with this isnt good either :(
February 6, 200719 yr Well, thanks for the effort at any rate...I guess the hotfix they talk about at MS is not real.Kind of you to try
February 8, 200719 yr Yeah, Tom wished i could have helped you out, but already looks like XP already been put on low interest specially now when the money is on Vista, hope you get it sorted out one way or another on your end.. ill keep my ears open, should anything come up on your issue, will let you know.
