April 8, 200719 yr Hi John,For FS9 thats a good system. You should have no issues with it. However two points, id recommend you to get a stronger PSU 700W+ with reliable rails, specially with your GPU it sucks quite some juice, and with a more powerful PSU you give your whole system some overhead capacity. (Undervoltage can damage a system). Regarding the GPU, are you sure you want to invest now in an older generation DX9 card with DX10 growing now to be the standard. If you plan to keep this system for a long time, maybe better to invest now in a DX10 card so you don't need to spend more money later on upgrading from your current DX9, just some food for thought ;) Another thing, although Kingston RAM isn't bad, id personally opt for OCZ, they just seem to perform better for me. Also when getting ram be sure they are a matched pair with the tightest timings possible. So all in all with a few changes, i see no issues with that setup running FS9 very nicely.
April 9, 200719 yr Thanks for your thoughts, regarding the GPU I found the price issue too great between DX9 and DX10 cards. This system will be soley for FS9 as I feel there is years of life left in it and at this time I have no intention of moving to FX10.Would a larger PSU make that much difference without causing heat problems ?Thanks again for your advice it is very much appreciated and carfully considered before I take the next step!!Regards JohnPentium 4 3.2GHz1024 MB DDR320GB HDDGeforce FX5200 265MBSaitek Flight SystemHead TrackerRC4AShttp://fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg
April 9, 200719 yr Alright, well that GPU you want will do fs fine. As far as the PSU, in fact the higher end PSUs actually have dual fans, so they help to reduce heat, and really i recommend you get a higher rated one with that 7950.
