A little power supply help please...

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all, I have just one quick question for today. If my video card asks for a 350 watt power supply and I have a 300 watt power supply, yet the video card seems to work just fine, will I notice an improvement in any way, shape, or form if I replace my 300 watt with a 500.

Keep in mind that your video card is not the only thing getting power from your power supply. I'd say you are heading for trouble if you don't replace the PS

Minimum PSUs nowadays are at least around 500 to 700Watt for the average system. Now im not saying spend a crazy ammount for an amazing PSU, but do spend enough to get a quality brand, OCZ etc... with powerful and stable enough 12v rails. The way your going about it now, is like Tom said, heading for trouble, because you need to keep in mind that, your Mobo, HD's, CD/DVD's etc.. all those components need an x amount of juice. There have been many cases that under voltage has been the cause in so that a person lost their system, in some cases even beyond repair. So be a smart and get a higher rated quality brand PSU so your on the safe side....

Okay, thanks guys. I picked up a 500 watt and all seems to be well. This is just for a second computer that I let my son play with, so I didn't overdo it. Thanks for the help.
