August 20, 200223 yr At what side does the captain sit in a two-pilot helicopter? Still right?- Oyvind
August 20, 200223 yr I was in a Augusta 109 recently and the Capt was right seat... Would have been hard for him sitting on the left 1. He would have been sitting on my knee! and 2. there were no controls!Hope this answers your question to some degree :-)http://www.avsim.com/vfr_center/avsim_sig.jpg
August 20, 200223 yr Actually it depends on the chopper. Traditionally the capt'n sits on the right, which holds true on most choppers. Some choppers are the oppposite (the Hughes 500 comes to mind). Robert
August 20, 200223 yr Another couple to the list:CH47 Chinnok and Sikorsky S61N also on the right!Any takers for left seat capt piloted heli?!http://www.avsim.com/vfr_center/avsim_sig.jpg
August 25, 200223 yr I've read accounts by Vietnam War-era pilots who flew their Hueys from the left seat because the smaller panel on that side provided them a better view of the ground during approaches to hot LZ's.I think the idea behind right seaters comes from the fact that since the right hand is generally busy with the cyclic, the left hand is free (in most cases) to work the panel switches.HHTom
