May 25, 200323 yr Howdie Folks..Looking for a little help here. Its regards to sound files and various helicopters. In the past if I have wanted a particular sound set in a helicopter I could do one of two things: 1. Make an alias to an existing soundset in a helicopter, or 2. If feeling lazy just copy and paste the sound folder from one to another. That seemed to work quite nicely.Things have changed quite a bit in recent months with the advancment in aircraft design and i have noticed that in some instances this is not possible. What I have recently tried to do is use the Hughes 500D soundset that i downloaded from hovercontrol.com in the A365 by Antti. That didnt work. Experimenting a little further, i tried the sound set in the new E130 (that uses an alias of the default Bell heli soundset) that dosn't work either. Can someone explain to me if i am trying to do something that will not work, or point me in the right direction to achieve my aim. I am only a simpleton who can write a review...!! these folks who design and develop aircraft have me totally amazed!CheersAidihttp://www.avsim.com/vfr_center/avsim_sig.jpg
May 25, 200323 yr i think sound systems which have start and shut down sounds require you to copy the aicraft cfg or air file or both aswell. If it is just an inside and outside sound system like the 206b then these will be fine copy and pasting.Alan
May 25, 200323 yr i believe the key to success in the trans-positioning of aircraft sound files can be found in the Sound.cfg file which may be a wee alien to the un-informed and un-initiated. The advice to copy "sound.cfg" file along with the sounds desired is good but it''s really be better to grasp that sound.cfg bull by the horns and understand what it's actually doing.Similar to the .sms files in MSTS, the sound.cfg file for an aircraft is ultimately the be-all do-all. It "pulls" the strings. Adding strings without "pulling" them no workie. ;-)
May 25, 200323 yr Understanding the sound.cfg isn't all. As fara as I know helicopter air files are not able to have strup/shutdown sounds. The trick to allow it is to change one engine type record in the airfile from "helicopter" to "jet", don't ask me which one only influences sound and doesn't make a "fixed wing" out of your helicopter.Arne Bartels
May 25, 200323 yr Thanks for the replies, starts to make sense with it being tied to other files in the helicopters file structure. RgdsAidanhttp://www.avsim.com/vfr_center/avsim_sig.jpg
