New thoughts on FS Comm and FSxxxx

Featured Replies

TVRON,Would you mind sharing your FS-Comm setup, I very intrested in how you got the auto throttles to work ?Cheers,Julian

There seems to be a lot of miss information going around about the USE of the program FS Communicator and Epic Mapper. Just my thoughts...1) FS Comm is freeware.2) Epicmapper is not.3) FS Comm runs in the background And has a nice gui for PROGRAMING IT.4) FS Comm allows very roburst features as to variables, copy them re_name them and such. Once you program them you minimize FS Comm and your in..you don't look at the interface it just works. you don't even need to open note pad to edit. not that epicinfo, by dawson is bad, but now , with FS Comm you go right to FSUIPC and name or call ANY OFFSET, pigion hole you want. Works very well with PM as well. Without FS Comm my auto throttles would never have worked. Yes they respond to FSxxx, are servoed and move. all for under $50.00 usa.5) All I am saying is befor I found FS Comm I was lost in c++ code that I did't understand. Editing 2-3 config files, Dealing with windows Game controler, FS config........... With FS Comm I just tell It what I want to do and I'am in. It allowed me to scale the throttles from +16383 -16383 down to 10 , so my feed back pot could track the FS Sim values... I know I am rambling..but give it a try. Just spent the day at the BOEING plant in seattle... WOW what a plant. so much to see and questions to ask.. got some good answers too. check this out.. the grave yard of cockpits...spent an hour there. And by the way This fourm is ours,, IE ask you question with all the detail you can, give your responce with all the detail you can . this is our fourm,, not on the clock as it were, so go into detail,,explain your question, and the answer. It would help all of us simmers I think. Got to go now A 777 sim ride in the AM, can't wait. Ron.

>TVRON,>>Would you mind sharing your FS-Comm setup, I very intrested in>how you got the auto throttles to work ?>>Cheers,>>Julian>Julian:I am not sure how to do that. I will attach the .cfv file. if you setup FS Comm then load this file "ron.cfv" it should now be a copy of my fs comm setup. I think. you will need to know how to use fs comm to understand what you are looking at. I am writing a short doc on the construction and the code I wrote on the auto throttles so check back soon. By the way the Sim ride I thought was all set did't happen. O-well. Ron.

Hi Ron,Thanbks for the reply, sorry to hear about the missed flight on the 777 sim, it happened to me a cpuple of weeks ago at the Delta training center, I had to make do with a 767-400, still not to shabby.I hope you get your ride soon.Best regards,Julian.

Hi TVRON,I have been scanning the messages on the topic of FScomm and Epicmapper. I have up to now been editing the FSconfig file individually but now understand that a better way is to use one of these go-between utiliies. I have downloaded FScomm because it is free and I'm able to try before making my mind up. Epicmapper sounds good and maybe easier to use but I don't like the complicated copyright safeguard (I don't blame them for doing this though) but I change computers around and like to use my laptop as well as the PC and appears I would need to buy to copies to do this (at $100 aussie each copy) thats not viable.Anyhow to the point, I installed FScomm (after getting a german/english dictionary) and starts up OK but when I start Epicentre (I initially get "cannot determine speed" error message then when I try to load I get a message,"Error communicating with Epic device " and whole program locks up. OK if I close the FScomm program..no errors at all with Epicentre. Any clues here?Just checking should I have FS2002, FScomm and Epicentre all running same time or is there a sequence here?RegardsMike

Hi!I didn't have the exact same problem when starting EPICenter and FSCOMM having an active connection to the EPIC, but it came always to a lock up when FSCOMM polled the EPIC and I wanted to open EPICINFO in EPICenter. The same is when loading a new code to the EPIC. Make sure you have FSCOMM communication to your EPIC closed while doing these steps!regards, steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------Do you know the A320 Flightdeck Project? HI ALL. you don't want epicinfo at all. take it out and fscomm should work. see they both try to talk to fs. so they conflict. Ron.
