Altitude rules

Recommended Posts

I wonder if someone could (again) clarify the westbound/eastbound altitude rules.I was under the impression that all EB flights operate at odd altitudes while WB flights operate at even ones. But on a recent flight from Miami to Dallas, I distinctly remember the captain mentioning a cruise altitude of FL350.Do the odd/even EB/WB rules not apply above FL320 or something?GS

Even/Odd applies to altitudes FL290 and below. Above FL290, seperation has to be increased, so 290, 330, 370 etc are eastbound, while 310, 350, 390 etc are westbound. I believe this is different in different parts of the world where Reduced Vertical Seperation has been implemented and so the above does not apply.-Rob
