Unrealistic Visibility

Featured Replies

First off, ActiveSky wxRE is a great program. But I have one problem that perhaps is my fault or for which there is an easy solution.Let's say I load a flight on Fs2002. I then load wxRE. The current weather ( which just happens to be "clear skies") is downloaded and indicates a visibility of 10 SM at the departing airport. However, when playing ATIS on FS2002, it indicates a visibility of 55 miles. Visually, it does look like there is 55 mile visibility also.My question is why the 10 mile visibility, which is correct, is not being loaded into flight simulator as the correct clear skies, tenmp, barometric pressure, wind direction and speed, etc., are.Any ideas? Any settings I am missing. Thanks!Kevin

Kevin, the METAR visibility report of 10SM does not necessarily mean that the visibility is just 10 miles. It means 10 or GREATER THAN 10 statute miles because the maximum reported visibility in this code (for the US and not by a human observer) is 10SM.Also, the minimum reportable visibility (again in the US and not by a human observer) is 1/4SM. A zero horizontal visibility is coded M1/4SM, meaning LESS THAN 1/4 statute mile.Where the 55 mile visibility number comes from in the ATIS report is anybody's guess. I have no clue.Hope this helps.
