June 17, 200322 yr Hi all,I have just installed FS Sky world SE 2.4 & was wondering if any other users of both programs activesky & fs sky world has come up with the ideal settings. I have a couple of questions i need some help on & would be appreciated.1. once fs2002 has loaded, online with active sky, does fssw need to run in the background also along with active sky? & is there a order in which one you open up first?2. when installing my preffered cloud sets from fssw, i now seem to be getting the error message in active sky "CLOUD LAYER CONFLICT IN METAR". is this conflicting with the clouds i install from fssw.3. when my flight is loaded, i now seem to be in vitual cockpit view, continous text line accross the top of the screen with also a small top view. I have disable text activated in active sky options, so all this has only happened since installing fssw. Has anyone found a cure for this?Your help is much appreciated.thanksMike.
June 17, 200322 yr Mike,1. Does FSSW need to run in the background? It depends: If you want random auto install of different cloud textures (changes cloud visuals), you have to keep it running. Set the auto install intervall less than the metar update interval of wxRE and FS will use the cloud textures files changed/overwritten by the FSSW auto install feature when wxRe next updates the weather in FS. Alternatively - and I believe this is the "standard procedure" recommended by Jim and Damian - just install the cloud texture sets (Cumulus, CB/T-Storm, High/Mid Level and never V-Sky) you like best once before starting FS/wxRe and then you can shut down FSSW for the rest of the session.2. Clouds from FSSW conflict with wxRe?Nope, that's coincidence. FSSW "just" delivers perfect cloud visuals (texture files), nothing more. The message you're getting refers to incorrect parameters within the metar statement.3. Strange display/text line due to FSSW?The "ATIS display" is a new feature of FSSW that can be turned off in the section of cloud.ini by setting FuncOnOff=off. Or go download and install Patch241.zip for FSSW, I believe it's now turned off by default. As to FSSW changing your default window setup: not sure, never happened to me. If you tried any FSSW situations, possibly saving a new default start situation within FS might remedy this.Cheers Peter
June 17, 200322 yr HiThanks peter,Does reply 1 stiil apply if i use active sky in online mode ?cheersmike
June 17, 200322 yr also, when you say never v-sky, do you mean to install the "diasble v-sky" or just dont install anything at all in the v-sky section? abit unsure.thanksmike.
June 17, 200322 yr Hi Mike, yes, wxRe online or offline mode, no difference (I'm not quite sure what your unsure of in this context).I think it's helpful to know what each utility does:FSSW consists of a huge number of cloud texture file sets (.bmp files) plus a program that, apart from a few other non-wx functions, installs them by copying selected texture file sets to FS folders. FSSW does not set or alter any weather parameters within FS.wxRe does all the magic of setting up the weather environment based on the downloaded weather data and feeds this "weather environment data" via FSUIPC to FS2k2. At this point there is no connection between FSSW and wxRe.FS2k2 reacts upon the data fed to it from wxRe to render the weather visually, using the current cloud texture sets (.bmp files) installed previously by FSSW.Hope this makes it slightly clearer, Peter
June 17, 200322 yr Mike,if you previously installed a V-Sky texture (or are unsure whether you did), just select the FSSW option "Disable V-Sky" once. FSSW will copy back the default texture (cirrus_overcast.bmp) to FS and all should be fine. I remember reading that the reason for this is that wxRe takes care of instructing FS to create a cirrus overcast layer when appropriate, which might conflict with the FSSW cirrus overcast bitmap visually. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this).Peter
