I've noticed that if you enable the "VATSIM METAR'S" option you will have a much more reliable way to download both offline and live METAR updates. No more time-out error's and they download faster :)Regards,Nick Anzelino

I agree with you. The only problem with VATSIM is that its source for weather data is a bit outdated, or the frequency it gets new data is low. Some tests I have done in the past indicated me that the most updated server is IVAO, which seems to grab data from Jeppesen servers, among others. It would be a nicer feature for a future ActiveSky release to implement a routine that would pick the most updated METAR message from Jeppesen, VATSIM, IVAO, NOAA and others.

I agree with you that the VATSIM server is sometimes behind. Over the last 3 days it has been right on the money with all METARS that I checked. And even if at one time or another they are an update behind, I would sacrifice a small bit of reality for a large bit of reliability ;)Nick
