Departure Weather Changes When I Load a Flight Plan

Featured Replies

The following is the downloaded metar in AS2004 for my departure airport:KMFR 211853Z 00000KT 10SM OVC014 08/06 A3021 RMK AO2 SLP233 T00830056 After hitting "refresh" in AS2 the weather was transferred to FSP/FSUIPC and the ceiling was correctly reported on the departure ATIS as 1400 overcast.I then loaded my flight plan into AS2 using the "New Route" button. Now, my departure ATIS is calling out 3600 overcast and the sky appearance has changed. Why does loading a flight plan into AS2 change the departure weather such that it is no longer in agreement with the departure metar?I have tried this at several fields, used various combinations of weather clearing and refreshing, and always end up with departure weather in disagreement with the departure metar if I load a flight plan into AS2.Any advice much appreciated.

Not sure. TAF processing on or off? global writes on or off?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

>Not sure. TAF processing on or off? global writes on or off?>>Hope this helps,>Jim>ActiveSky SupportJim,TAF processing is OFF. I tried it with Global Wries ON and OFF. I get the same thing either way. When I load a flight plan into AS2 the departure weather changes and is in disagreement with the departure metar.

I tried to duplicate this and just couldn't do it. Is the navlog METAR and the METAR in the main AS window the same?JimActiveSky Support

I found out that if "Route Based Wind Smoothing" is checked, loading a flight plan changes the departure ceilings and visibility. If I leave "Route Based Wind Smoothing" unchecked, I can load a flight plan and the departure ceilings and visibility remain in agreement with the departure metar. Why does having "Route Based Wind Smoothing" checked cause the departure weather to change if a flight plan is loaded.

I just tried again, and no change for me. Honestly I am not sure what is going on here. I'll wait for Damian to come along. OK?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

OK Jim. Thanks. I sent an e-mail to hifisupport with my flight plan and AS2 weather files attached. I'm sure seeing something different than you are.

I just got your e-mail and forwarded everything directly to Damian!JimActiveSky Support

And I was able to duplicate this. With RBWS Off ATIS was correct, with it On ATIS was incorrect. I can post the differences, as I wrote them down.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Good to know that you saw the same thing I did. I got an e-mail from Damian. He is looking at the issue. He will get it figured out. May end up making the whole route based weather system work better.
