India: blind spots - really !

Featured Replies

I keep wondering. Whenever I download Dheli and Mumbai the visibility is ALWAYS 0.50 - 0,75 SM.I understand humidity and smog problems there. But I spent 3 days in Bombei (Mumbai) - and was enjoying never-ending take-offs from my Marriott's balcony, beach and swiiming pool. Great weather! Interesting, that AS 2004 gives exact weather for some other airports in India. Conditions in Goa (Debolim) are ALWAYS close to reality - as far as can judge after spending 2 weeks there.Same for Bangalore.I was talking only about places where I actually was within last 2 months.

HiI have been to Delhi and can tell you the smog and humidity was awful :)As for the weather, it really depends where the weather station is based i guess. The weather station could be somewhere heavily congested.I think someone standing at the beach where there is less congestion, pollution and a nice breeze may experience better conditions than someone in the city center 15 miles away perhaps? If it is always low visibility, i think i might arrange my next flight there, low visibility approaches in a 747 are always awesome!Sorry if this is not much help. I am at work right now and dont want to do any work so i am trying to keep myself busy with other things like posting here.

Can you throw me some ICAO's and I'll be happy to look into it!JimActiveSky Support

Here are some metars from VABB (Mumbai) and VIDP (Delhi) - in the last 24 hours, the visibility has ranged from 800 meters to 5000 meters. VABB 290140Z 00000KT 0800 BR FEW250 19/17 Q1009 NOSIGVABB 291540Z 21003KT 3000 FU FEW020 22/18 Q1010 NOSIGVABB 291140Z 244004KT 5000 FU SCT020 25/18 Q1008 NOSIGI just included a few - All the METARS either have BR (mist) or FU (smoke) as what is restricting visibility.VIDP is the same, except for lower visibility, and usually HZ (Haze) rather than smoke:VIDP 290000Z 00000KT 0600 RP/2000 MIFG SKC 09/08 Q1013 NOSIGVIDP 291300Z 05005KT 3000 HZ SKC 17/09 Q1012 NOSIGVIDP 291100Z 07003KT 5000 HZ SKC 20/06 Q1012 NOSIGThis time of year, with it being colder there, I imagine there are more coal and wood fires, thus the low visibilities.iaflyer

Back again,Checked out VABB and VIDP. What a mess to fly in. Everything looked good according to the METARs and what was being reported and displayed in FS. I wonder what KLAX will be like next summer?!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Thanks for working on this issue!Your 24 hour checking made me really intrigued! I will do the same thing. But what was odd - from the very beginning - and how it all started. In November I was spending a 2 week vacation in Goa and flew from Goa (VAGO) to Mumbai (VABB) on Jet Airways' brand new 737-800. I spent 3 days in Bombei (which is Mumbai since 1992 or so). I spent 3 days at Marriott which was located 2 miles from 32 runway and maybe 3-4 miles from 27 runway. It's really very close - you can look into FS Navigator. The weather was humid - as it used to be - but visibility was great.I was arriving at 10.00 am and departing at 02.00 pm in three days.Mumbai airport is a very interesting place (that's why it's rated so low, probably). One could enjoy an amazing view of abandoned F-27 - bambook grew thick and tall THROUGH the Fokkers since the aircraft were left. There was an old Air India A-300 stuck for years. But the point is that I could observe (with binoculars and without) all the airport. After take-off the panorama of the city, of the Bay - was excellent. As soon as came back home to Moscow I sure thing flew all the routes I actually had flown in India - to/from Mumbai and to/from Bangalore.I was taking METARs from exactly those days I was flying! And then I faced this issue. Close to reality weather in Goa and Bangalore and 0.50 SM in Mumbai.Actually, I used to fly all around the world in FS. And almost everywhere the weather is close. But those blind spots in India - mystery! Well, after all India is a coutry of mysteries. Probably it should be this way???
