AS2004 Winds Aloft Very Calm

Featured Replies

I have been noticing for a while now that the aloft winds seem to be very low compared to real world forcast. For example, the first screenshot shows AS2004 (1.01a2) sitting on the ground at CYXS with no flight plan loaded. The second shot shows Environment Canada's upper winds for CYXS. If you look at FL340 AS2004 has the winds 230@27kts -52C. Environment Canada has the FL340 (1700-2100z) winds for the same station as 206758 which decodes to 200@67kts -58C.Why such a difference? I have tried this without wind smoothing, and as I said above I have not loaded a FP to smooth as of yet.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61536.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61537.jpgThanks,

Mike,My opinion:The reports you are comparing to seem to be forcasts and not actual reports.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Ok...sounds good. The screenshot came from the page titled Forcast & Observations...Thanks for your help Jim.

Yep and from the chart they do make an observation, which is not shown, and then make some forcasts. Let me know if you want some sites with winds aloft. I think I have some bookmarked somewhere!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Thanks Jim. The URL's for those sites would be appreciated when you have time. You can send them to the email in my signature if you would like. Thanks again,

Put them here so others can see also:http://adds.aviationweather.gov/winds/Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
