I just installed ActiveSky on my computer. When I try to load the program I get an error message. It says "error reading wxre.ini file - there may be an offline file/folder incorrectly set. Checked your ini file."What should I look for and what should I make it read?Bob

Hi Bob,I am going to assume that you are running wxRE here. Just click OK, go into Options and download a new set of Offline weather files. Then the message should go away.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

JimI tried what you suggested, I think, and still have the problem. When I try to download a new data set everything seems to be going okay until I start to get the forecast winds, then I get the same message. This is what my configuration file looks like if that is any help.//wxRE configuration file - be careful with edits here[General]WXREOfflinePath = C:Program FilesActiveSky wxREExportPath = OperationMode = OfflineDefaultOfflineFile = cycle18Z.wxdDisableCloudTransitions = FalseDisableMessages = FalseLowBandwidthWinds = FalseExportMetars = FalseAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueMETARUpdateInterval = 15FDUpdateInterval = 45UpdateMETAROnNewStation = FalseUpdateFDOnNewStation = FalseWindsAloftSimulation = TrueIdlePriority = FalseVATSIMMetars = FalseDefaultForceRange = 80ZuluConversion = 5RainVisReduction = TrueOvercastHorizonVis = TrueDisableForceWindUpdates = FalseTAFProcessing = FalseWakeTurb = TrueDisableUpdatesWhenForced = FalseStartPaused = FalseCloudTransitionInterval = 30MinimumCloudThickness = 200UseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEProxyPort = 80Bob

Bob,Before you do anything else, please update your version to V1.92. The update can be found at our web site. Install the update, then download a new set of weather files. Along the way, just ignore that message.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

JimDid all that but I stiil got the error message while downloading the new data set. I also still get the message when I reload the program.I think I'm getting new surface obs and tafs, but not any upper winds info.I tried doing an enroute briefing and the METARS were current but all the upper winds forecasts (FDs)) from all fcst centers were missing.Bob

Jim...I tried reinstalling v1.92 update and downloaded a new data set. Now I don't get the error message. I don't get any upper winds either. When doing a briefing, I get a message that the winds aloft will be simulated. When I first start the program I get a simulated winds aloft from "the nearest station." which happens to be 60252. This is thousands of kilometers from KCLE. It is somewhere in block 60 and the station ident for the station is 252. Most of the US is in block 72 with a few stations in block 74. Cleveland's (KCLE) International identifier is 72524, block 72 station 524.How do I know all this useless stuff? I used to be a weather forecaster for the National Weather Service. Unless things have changed this is the way it was before I retired. The problem of not getting the latest winds forecast (FD) may be that the computer has dumped tho old forecast with a new one scheduled in the near future. I can't remember when I was working if there were times of no data between forecasts.Anyhow, I got rid of that annoying message, and I will try later to get a fresh set of FDs.For your information, here is the config file://wxRE configuration file - be careful with edits here[General]WXREOfflinePath = C:Program FilesActiveSky wxREExportPath = OperationMode = OnlineDefaultOfflineFile = expcycle17Z.wxdDisableCloudTransitions = FalseDisableMessages = FalseLowBandwidthWinds = FalseExportMetars = FalseAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueMETARUpdateInterval = 15FDUpdateInterval = 45UpdateMETAROnNewStation = FalseUpdateFDOnNewStation = FalseWindsAloftSimulation = TrueIdlePriority = FalseVATSIMMetars = FalseDefaultForceRange = 80ZuluConversion = 5RainVisReduction = TrueOvercastHorizonVis = TrueDisableForceWindUpdates = FalseTAFProcessing = FalseWakeTurb = TrueDisableUpdatesWhenForced = FalseStartPaused = FalseCloudTransitionInterval = 30MinimumCloudThickness = 200UseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEProxyPort = 80Thanks for all your help.Bob

Hi Bob,Glad the error message is gone. Just so you know, if the above ini is after your update, then the update may have not gone correctly. There are some lines missing. I hope your wxRE window reads V1.92. FYI, we are heading South today for 10 days. Others will pick this up if you need more help.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Jim...Yes, my wxre window reads V1.92. And yes, The config file I sent was copied after the upgrade. If someone sends me the complete file, I can edit my copy and save it. I may try reinstalling the update to see if I get the missing lines.Have A Good trip.Bob
