Weather data problems?

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm running ActiveSky in preflight briefing mode (IOW, I haven't started FS yet), and I'm having a couple of problems with the information I'm getting. Problem 1: Right now, it's 07 Apr. 1839Z, but the reported WX is for 062153Z, late even by Vatsim standards. This time and report is not changed by toggling the VATSIM weather checkbox. I've even tried restarting AS2004 with the checkbox checked, and unchecked, no change. Here's the briefing log:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/70393.jpgSo, is there a problem with the HiFi WX data server? This is the first time I've had this problem since I bought AS2004...NOAA METAR site says this:KMTJ 071653Z AUTO 15004KT 10SM CLR 14/03 A3003 RMK AO2 SLP116 T01390033KTEX 071710Z AUTO 00000KT 10SM FEW019 06/02 A3011 RMK----------------------Problem 2: The briefing is for a flight from KMTJ to KTEX, about 33 nm. This route was entered on the Flight Plan Entry page in AS2004. The alternate given was for KGJT. Please refer to the briefing log above and note that the TAF offered for KMTJ is from KEGE, more than 80 nm from KMTJ. It would not be a problem, if that was the closest available TAF station. However, KMTJ is a TAF station! Why is its own TAF not being offered? The TAF offered for KTEX is KALS, about 69 nm to the east. Since KTEX is only 33 nm from KMTJ, KMTJ's TAF should be presented. The alternate airport is KGJT, also a TAF station, but the TAF from KEGE is offered instead. Huh?This behavior can also be duplicated using the Fetch window. Is this an artifact of the above supposed server problem? I've not used AS2004 in this area before, so I can't say, else I'd not bother you about this.TIA for your help.--The BeachComer

(Hmm...can't edit the original even though it's been less than 10 minutes since I last edited it)I have started FS and gotten correctly-timed reports. So AS2004 apparently reads some config file even when it knows FS is not running to determine the time of reports it should fetch. And I see that there is a checkbox to use System Time rather than FS time...hmmm, but that was checked. Problem two has also disappeared with the running of FS. Never mind.............! :-roll

Hi Beach,Some things to check:1. Use system time.2. Make sure your system clock is correct.3. Use Automatic time zone detection.4. Did the problem start with the change in time over the weekend?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Howdy, Jim!Thanks for responding. However, as I noted above, almost all the problems seem to be related to not having FS running while getting weather info with AS2004. The only problem I might have is that I did have system time checked already, my clock is set correctly for DST, my Z time is also correct when I'm in the sim, and the Auto time zone box is also ticked -- yet, the time problems noted occurred. However, just tell me that I'm not supposed to use AS2004 to get weather briefings until FS is running, and I'll have no excuse for complaint.OTOH, if it is supposed to work, well, there ya go. This was my first flight since DST, so I can't say it didn't start then, but I've never tried to get a briefing before starting FS using AS2004 either. Just thought I'd try it in that mode, because I was irritated at the online resources not allowing me to enter a route and get a route briefing, TAF and METAR all together. Just say "bad dog" and I'll always remember to start FS before actually using AS2004.Thanks for reading!
