May 8, 200422 yr I just purchased ActiveSky last weekend and I've just been doing some local flights to see how it works. It defintely provides much better weather visuals than default. The problem I'm having is that I'm still getting rapid weather changes. I have online updates on, TAF processing enabled and visibilty smoothing enabled. I also have suppression enabled with a ceiling of 10,000 and range of 70 miles. For example, I just took off out of KSJC with some scattered clouds around 2500 feet. Things looked great on the ground with about 10 mile visibility. As I climbed out, visibilty quickly became unlimited and I had clouds that disappeared. As I came back around to land, the weather quickly changed back to how it was on the ground as I descended. I know this happens to the default weather as you get above the cloud base ans wasn't sure if this was still the case with AS. Is there any way to graduate visibility as you climb/descend? I don't mind the cloud changes as much as the quick visibilty change. I have my max. visibilty setting at 60 and cloud draw at 60 within FS. Thanks for any help!Eric
May 8, 200422 yr Hi,We are fighting a FS situation here. Visibility is hard to control by drawing clouds. Was it the low level clouds that disappeared? We continue to work on this situation. Try with TAF processing OFF.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
May 8, 200422 yr Jim-Yes, it's the low level clouds that change/disappear. Seems like once i get to the altitude the clouds are at, everything suddenly changes. I'm assuming this is just one of those FS9 things that is hard to control. I'll try it with TAF processing off and we'll see what happens. Thanks!Eric
May 8, 200422 yr Just tried a flight out of KMSP at around 2:30 CDT (local time) with TAF processing off and had similar results. Here is the METAR:KMSP 081853Z VRB06KT 10SM FEW028 BKN090 BKN200 17/11 A2997 RMK AO2 SLP150 T01720111Clouds appeared to be correct on the ground. I have layer limit at 2 and it definitely appeared to be FEW at 2800 and BKN at 9000. Vis also appeared to be 10 miles. Really looked good on the ground. Climbed out towards the east and visibilty slowly decreased during the climb. As I hit around 3000', visibility went to unlimited and the only clouds visible were a few cumulus clouds behind me. This is very similar to what the MS default weather does. Thnx.Eric
May 8, 200422 yr From your example, part of this is that 3 cloud layers are in the METAR and your layer limit is at 2. Of course one layer is going to disappear. I know FPS will be affected, but increase cloud layers. Also please copy and paste your as2004.ini file and post all your weather settings in FS including dynamic change. Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
May 9, 200422 yr Jim-Yeah, the METAR had 3 cloud levels and I realize that I would be missing one of them. I had the 2 lower layers which was fine but those were the layers that suddenly changed as soon as I hit the base of the lowest cloud layer. Is there a way to keep the visibilty from changing as you climb? This is the biggest issue I'm seeing, going immediately from under 10 miles visiblity to unlimited when I hit a cloud layer. My current FS WX settings are as follows:Sight Distance=60Cloud Draw Dist.=603-6 Clouds= 100%Cloud coverage density=MAXDynamic WX=noneHere is my AS file://AS2004 configuration file[General]WindowPosX = 435WindowPosY = 1530DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesActiveSky2004SuppressionCeiling = 10000SurfaceWindLimit = 8CloudLayerLimit = 3LocalSuppressionRange = 70OnlineUpdates = TrueExtendedDestinationWindsForce = FalseGlobalWrites = TrueVoicePlayback = TrueLocalSuppression = TrueStartupSound = FalseUseProxyServer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueUpdateSuppression = TrueOvercastEnhancement = TrueRouteWindSmoothing = TrueLimitSurfaceWinds = TrueLimitCloudLayers = TrueDisableUpperLayerGeneration = FalseVisibilitySmoothing = TrueDisableMessages = TrueAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueUpdateInterval = 30VATSIMData = FalseZuluConversion = -4TAFProcessing = TrueWakeTurb = TrueStartPaused = FalseUseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEThanks!Eric
May 9, 200422 yr Eric,Try this: Update to V1.1, take some flights and report back!http://www.hifisim.com/as2k4updateMR1.zipHope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
