Question about supression range and smoothing

Featured Replies

Howdy,One of the places I fly has few weather reporting stations and I have noticed that most if not every time I have the big wind or cloud visibility shift I am in a particular zone between my weather reporting stations. I will have to start documenting it properly! Here is the scenerio I often fly under...* There are two reporting stations that are 200nm apart* I am 100nm from each station* The next closes reporting station is 300nm away* My suppression range is 80nmNow, if a weather update occurs the weather at my two nearest stations may change and because my suppression range does not encompase either of the two stations (they are 100nm away at least) then does the engine smooth the visibility/winds still or is this why some of us get the big changes intermittantly? Because I am in between stations? If it is the reason for some our problems then upping the suppression range so that it will always 'cover' at least one reporting station may help. I am about to do some testing but I though it might be quicker and a lot easier to get a yes, no to this hypothisis. :-)I just flew one of my sometimes troublesome flights while writing this message and it all worked perfectly, very nice! :-)

Hi Steven,Turn OFF Supression range all together and fly a troublesome flight and please report back.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim,I did as you suggested and the settings I currently have a really good for flying around so far. I have had some fairly large gusts climbing through a cloud base after take off but it just seems windy instead of a cyclone :-)I documented 3 flights, during all three I used the same flight plan and found that:* Having my update suppression hight at FL100 caused a suddent cloud shift at FL110, I set it back to 3,000 and it works better for me.* On decent to my destination I always have two large cloud changes. Flying level, the clouds change very well so this is just on decent. The changes happened at the following hights and distances from the airport. 1. ** FL180 to FL190 and just under 50nm out then again at ** 10,280 and 34.3 nm out 2. ** FL210 to FL220 and just under 53nm out then again at ** 11,980 and 34.4 nm out 3. ** FL240 to FL250 and just under 73nm out then again at ** 12,280 and 34.8 nm outI do not have cloud layers disabled so if there are two or three or more layers it should draw them, I think :-).
