July 9, 200421 yr When flying into an area with turbulence, what's the likelihood of finding smoother air at a higher cruise altitude? In other words, when AS2004 generates these areas do they only span a few thousand feet, or many thousands of feet, in which case trying to climb out it would be pointless? In the past I pretty much gutted it out at the filed altitude to take advantage of AS2004 wind smooting. Now that this has been eliminated by FSUIPC, I see altitude changes as a now viable option. I had avoided planning on step climbs during longer flights for the same reason.Mark Kuebeler
July 10, 200421 yr Hi Mark,Turbulence is local, so climbs, especially out of clouds, may be helpful.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
