August 9, 200421 yr Howdy Gang, long time no talk to :-).After a bit of a hiatus, I've reloaded FS & AS2004 w/MR1 (not using the beta MR2 yet). I have the latest registered version of FSUIPC. I'm using Chris Wills cloud set & I believe it's DXT3, not the 32 bit, but not sure on that. I'm running under Win XP Pro, have 1 Gig of memory with a set 2500 MB VM, and have 72% of an 80 Gig HD left as free space (although with the cost of this HD, I'd hardly call it "free", but that's for another post :-lol). OK, with that as background, I'm running into a problem with Out of Memory messages and FS9 locking up. Now, here's the dilema. If I turn the Render to Texture off, then as FS9 is booting up, it gets to where it tries to load the wx (this is with nothing else running, including AS), it freezes and won't go past that point. It eventually tells me that it's had to shut down and it's very sorry (I'm impressed :-) ). However, the AS2004 Readme says to turn it off, so you can now see my problem. If I turn it off, the program freezes. If I leave it on, the program freezes (w/AS2004 running, but I can't say for sure that this is what's causing me the grief). So, I'm not sure why I can't turn off the Render to Texture, because I used to have it off on my previous installation and everything was hunky-dory. Before I go looking further for any other culprits, does anyone have any clues as to why the program should freeze with the Render to Texture turned off? If I can fix that, then everything else should fall into place. If I'm still having problems, and can somehow trace it to AS, then I'll post back here with more info, but at least an answer to this question will get me started. Thanks very much guys and girls. Appreciate any help.Glenn
August 9, 200421 yr OK, I may have found my problem. In Chris' readme it says if one is using DXT3 clouds, they may get a freeze when loading FS if Render to Texture is off. That must be what I have. I'll fix that back to the 32 bit and see if that works.Man, you guys are good! My keys are still warm from the first post and already I have an answer :-lol.I'll let you know what happens (just follow the whimpering sounds and you'll know my theory didn't work :-) ).Glenn
August 9, 200421 yr Hi Glenn,The combination should be Chris' 32 bit clouds and Render to Texture Off.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 9, 200421 yr Sounds good Jim. I've got the 32 bits in now (confirmed that I had the DXT3 files, so that's why my Render to Texture wasn't allowed to switch off without a crash). Thanks for the help - will do a flight tonight, but all seems ok so far now.Glenn
August 10, 200421 yr Just to make sure there's no misunderstanding here - the problem I had with crashing was NOT due to Active Sky. I did think it was due to the Render to Texture issue I had, which was cleared up after a second read on the README and another look-see at Chris's site (plus Jim's comments of course). What did turn out to be the problem was a scenery package I had installed incorrectly, which seems to be rectified now. So, just wanted to make sure no one read my post and thought that AS was causing crashes. That wasn't the case (and never has been with me at least). Thanks for the help again Jim. All is good now :-)Glenn
