August 22, 200421 yr Hi folks, while trying to set up this new addon i noticed..... see pictures.Surely it's my fault, been inexperienced but, can anyone please help me getting rid of those squared clouds bases? Thanks from a dumb AS2004 user :-shyLuigi ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88764.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88765.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88766.jpg
August 22, 200421 yr Hi Again,Update your AS 2004, then limit your visibility.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 22, 200421 yr Thanks a lot Jim for your support. Now, that i have updated to 2004.5, how do i reduce visibility? As i told before i loaded FSUIPC Minimum Weather Default; should i reduce visibility via FSUIP module, maybe setting a graduate visibility increase, or it's better to edit AS2004 options (at the moment Max Visibility is set to 50sm.Forgive me for tons of boring questions but that's my AS-DAY :-newbiecheersLuigi ;-)
August 22, 200421 yr Edit the AS options. I posted my AS.ini file after one of your other posts. Try things out and see what you like. You post as much as you need to!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 22, 200421 yr Your AS.ini has max visibility defaulted to 80 sm. My AS.ini has Max visibility set to 50. Further visibility reduction is needed? :-8Should i lower to 30 sm that value?Luigi ;-)
August 22, 200421 yr Hi,No one "correct" value here. 50 will give you a thin haze, 80 does not. Try both and see which one you like best.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 22, 200421 yr >Surely it's my fault, been inexperienced but, can anyone>please help me getting rid of those squared clouds bases?Hi Luigi, unfortunately the square base is not a fault of yours, nor of ActiveSky.It's a minor drawback in the way FS manages cloud textures. It's not that common to see this flaw as it happens mostly with heavy clouds near the terrain, and usually in such case there is also low visibility which limits the appearance of the error. In fact Jim was suggesting to reduce the visibility just to give FS a hand in "masking" its errors.
August 22, 200421 yr Hi Claudio,i suspected that fault was FS9 weather engine related so i asked for a trick to mask that error; at the moment i'm trying AS 50sm visibility option along with some FSUIP gradual visibility settings.BTW, which settings do you use?thanks for posting hereLuigi ;-)
August 23, 200421 yr I tried using the visibility smoothing, but FS itself is nowhere near a decent fog visibility smoothing...Try IL2 Sturmovik (you can have it original for free with August issue of The Games Machine) and see for yourself. This said, i do not use any "hard" limit as the results for me are not satisfactory. The only limit i use is in the weather tab of the Graphics Detail options panel of FS itself, there i have limited the maximum visibility to 60nm or so and the clouds to 40 or 50.
August 24, 200421 yr Erups,Have you tried with the visibility limits in AS?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 24, 200421 yr >Have you tried with the visibility limits in AS?Yes i tried, i was referring to as by "hard limit".But the problem is that AS operates on FS own visibility, and the problem (for me at least) resides there: when the visibility gets limited, FS makes it appear a gray layer, just like a big smog cloud...While being somewhat realistic over big cities and lower altitudes, it gets annoying at high altitudes an not over big cities ;)This at least happend for limits under 60nm, which is just exactly what i have in FS options. If i go below 60 i have the smog, so for me it's useless :(
August 25, 200421 yr Right you are. We had that conversation just a few days ago!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
