Some more questions from an AS rookie

Featured Replies

Hi friends,it's my turn again :DHere are a few questions from an AS rookie:1) my ActiveRadar screen is black; im running AS2004 on a client PC via WideFS v6232 and installed ActiveRadar on FS9 PC using ActiveRadarConnector2.exe program (all went fine).Maybe i should load FS9 flightplan into Radar itself? or it isn't necessary to get some nice coloured images on the radar screen? In effect closest weather station in ActiveRadar doesn't match the actual flight location :-(2) why does it take so long (sometimes 4-5 minutes in dense areas) to write METARs?3) which settings should i use to have ATIS voice announcements?Tried first flight in AS2004 ambience and i must admit i was very impressed! Good job my friends :-coolThanks in advance for helpingLuigi ;-)

Hi,1. Not necessary to load a plan but helpful. Not every airport is in the AR database. You only see colors in areas of prcipitation.2. You are the second person to have slow writes using a network. I don't know enought about it to help. You'll need to wait for Damian and/or others.3. Turn COM 1 to 122.00. Might need to wait just a little bit before the voice starts. Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim,1. Not necessary to load a plan but helpful.I tried loading same flightplan as the AS program on client PC and updated ActiveRadar: it told me flightplan was still not loaded and the weather station didn't match my real position:-madForgot to mention i was flying in OFFLINE mode :( does it matter?Maybe i am wrong in loading flightplan? ..DocumentsFlight Simulator FilesThanks a lot for supportLuigi ;-)

The plan must be an exact FS04 plan. Try to resave the plan and then try to load it.If you sit at a mojor airport does AR report your location on the tracking screen?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Jim,-If you sit at a mojor airport does AR report your location on the tracking screen?Yes it does.I'm a bit confused :-mad Here what i do:I select PLANNING section of ActiveRadar >>> MSFS >>> load .pln file >>> can read in red "new route may require update, click UPDATE ALL to refresh" >>> UPDATE ALL >>> weather planning page doesn't change at all, just black >>> go to weather tracking page where i can read in yellow "Flightplan not loaded"; the local information match local apt.Maybe i must load same .pln also in ActiveSky on the client PC?Can you please explain why downloads archive often give me a different METAR hour? i look for 03Z METAR and downloaded .dat is 00Z instead. Thanks again for your patienceLuigi ;-)

Hi,The update may take some time. The plan does not need to be also loaded in AS.Right now weather is archived every 6 hours at 0Z, 6Z, 12Z, and 18Z and contains 6 hours of weather. In your case the 3Z weather was there but just called 0Z, but contained all the weather from 0Z to 6Z.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Jim,did my last attempt in the afternoon, this time, before loading AR flightplan, i loaded same FS9 .pln file both in FS2004 flightplanner and in AS on client PC. Believe or not flightplan just took a couple seconds to load into AR pages. Maybe this is just a coincidence...Tomorrow will try another flight loading a new .pln file only in AR on main PC.Right now weather is archived every 6 hours at 0Z, 6Z, 12Z, and 18Z and contains 6 hours of weather. In your case the 3Z weather was there but just called 0Z, but contained all the weather from 0Z to 6Z.Here i say again that i'm a former FSMeteo user, so i was used downloading single METARs, each for one specific hour. Can you please explain how can 0Z contain weather from 0Z to 6Z?If at a specific location at 0Z weather is overcast and at 6Z weather is scattered how will AS detect differences? :-madAnyway after my first flight all i can say is that ActiveSky 2004 ROCKS!!! :-jumpy My best congrats to all persons involved in this project.Thank you againLuigi ;-)

Hi,Every 6 hours the server grabs all the weather from the previous 6 hours and saves it as a package. A user requests a time like 3Z. The server then says to itself "OK, the 3Z weather is in the 0Z package and sends the package to the users AS. If flying in Offline Mode a user should have the Use FS Time option checked ON in AS, and set their FS clock to 3Z. Then, AS will use the 3Z weather from the package. Yes, with that package the user could set his FS clock to 0Z, 1Z, 2Z, 3Z, 4Z, or 5Z and the correctly timed weather from that package would be used. After those times, the METAR might be used or the TAF might be used, depending on which is most recient. The name of the package represents when the weather started to be packaged. There are plans in the future to save weather each hour and have it ready, just as you were doing before.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi,think i have undestood. In other words, when flying offline, after 0Z loaded i can set FS9 clock to 0Z, 1Z, 2Z, 3Z, 4Z, or 5Z (FS Time option checked ON in AS).For example, if i decide to start flight at 3Z, then i could fly over next two hours and ActiveSky automatically will update to 4Z and then to 5Z; and if flight continues AS keeps using last METAR in .dat file. Is that correct?Suppose i have to set FS9 dynamic weather changes ON in FS weather settings.thanksLuigi ;-)

Right about the timing system! In FS, dynamic weather changes should always be turned off. AS will provide changes as conditions change.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Thanks a lot,useful thread indeed....bookmarked!cheersLuigi ;-)
