August 27, 200421 yr I try to fly "real time" (i.e. if a flight leaves at 5pm in real life I try to leave at 5pm in FS) but lately have not been able to do so due to time constraints. The downloadable weather of AS makes a perfect solution because now I can have accurate weather whereas before if I flew at night in real life I would get night time weather (cooler temps, etc) but flying in the day.My question is how to use the TAF features in AS? If I download archive weather into AS and read the METAR for my destination it does not seem to change from when I take off to when I arrive. Does that mean the weather at my destination does not change, (i.e. if I take a 8hr flight to my destination, will the weather there be 8 hours old, from the archive wx?) or is this where the TAF processing stuff comes in?Let me make an example- say I fly from Amsterdam to Vancouver, BC. Now say that in real life the flight leaves at 8am and arrives at 11am local time. Now say I start this flight at 10pm real time (same time zone as Vancouver) and let it go overnight and go back to it at 6am. Currently in my AS settings I have TAF Processing enabled and the "Use System Time" option checked too. Does this mean that AS will "morph" the archive wx into the current weather conditions at CYVR, based on 6am data? Or will it morph the weather into what was forecast by the wx download to be at 11am local?I read the manual but don't really understand what is going on, thanks!Ruahrc
August 27, 200421 yr Hi,This morning I just couldn't answer this, but here I am now. In Offline Mode weather will never morph with the Online weather. In Offline Mode you should always use FS time. In every archive there are 6 hours of true conditions and then TAFS. AS will use the most up to date report. In the 6 hour window the METAR will be used. Outside the window the METAR or the TAF will be used depending on the times.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 17, 200421 yr Sorry to dig from the graveyard of old posts, but I got caught up moving and couldn't read the forums for quite a while. So when I fly using archived weather I should check the FS time box, and when flying real time I should check system time (although it shouldn't matter because FS time and real time should be the same huh?:))Ruahrc
September 17, 200421 yr Hi,No problem, real world stuff comes first. Its really the same Option in AS: Use system time should be checked ON when in Online Mode and checked OFF when in Offline Mode.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
