Removing FS Skyworld and AS2004

Featured Replies

Ok. Now that I've got ASV running to my satisfaction, Id like to clean things up by removing FS Skyworld, AS2004 and AS 2004.5.No prob with FS Skyworld as I was able to find an executable for the un-install.But what about Active Sky? Do I just delete the folders and remove the entries (there are two - one for AS2004 and one for AS2004.5) in my program list? Or, is there an executable for the uninstall buried somewhere? Thanks for your help.L. Noel

I dug deeper into the forum pages and I see this question came up some time ago. As I upgraded from AS2004/4.5 to ASV, it seems to me it would be safer to leave AS2004/4.5 in place. Is this correct? Thanks,L. Noel

I tried to go for the repair as well, but it didn't work for me as the ASV setup (upgrade version) insisted to see the previous installation of 2004.5.Regards, Sam

Hi Sam,The upgrade edition of ASV creates a full ASV installer version upon installation. This full package ends up in a folder called something like c:asv_install_files. You need to:1) re-install AS2004.5, so you can2) then run the ASV upgrade installer. It will ask you where to store the full installer, remember that location (and burn it to CD or whatever). After installation is complete, you have a working ASV and a full installer for future use.3) Now you can uninstall AS2004.5. NOTE! This will also remove some files needed for ASV to work.4) So now run the full installer located in c:asv_install_files (might be different in your case) and choose repair. At the end you have a working ASV. Remember, from now on use the full installer in case of problems or re-installing.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation, Jim! This way it did work perfectly!!Have a great week! Sam

Thanks, Jim for the detailed info. However, just to be perfectly clear, if one chooses to simply leave AS2004/4.5 as is, it won't cause any problem with ASV. Right? Thanks,L. Noel

Hi Jim,Might you confirm the location of the "full" installer that comes with the "upgrade" from 2004.5 to ASV? (I have no directory called "c:asv_install_files" on my hard drive.)Is the installer different when we buy from Simmarket (as did I)? If so, then is there anything special about reinstalling--if we remove AS2004.5 from the hard drive?Best,Mike

Hi Jim,"Should be the same."It is not. The Simmarket download is a full installer inside the zipfile. Don't know if the installer checks for AS2004.5. But it does NOT put out a directory "c:asv_install_files". (At least on my installation it did not.)Wonder if there is some quick way to confirm what is going on before any disaster strikes?Best,Mike

Hi Mike,Maybe not and I will stand corrected. Because SimMarket was our backup purchase plan they may be selling just the Full version. In order to get the discount price however you need to be logged in and then you downloaded the full version. In that case users have the full version already and there is no asv install files directory generated. So now what users need to do is backup that downloaded zip for future installs. We've been through so much in the last 10 days that it is hard to keep track sometimes!Edit: So to answer your first question: yes you can safely remove AS2004.5 and if files get removed runn the Full install again and choose Repair.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Thanks much, Jim. You've been a real help to us all.Three cheers!Best,Mike
