June 18, 200520 yr Does the immediate airport not allow really low clouds around it? Now that I think about it, I always see clouds down to the deck in the country, around mountains, etc. in FS9. But have never seen it at the airport where they shroud the tower or other structure (which they do many times in RW with towers that are tall enough. Is that an FS9 limitation? I mean I have seen low visibility, on the airport, but I have never seen buildings with a cloud around it, like I have seen in cities, mountains, valleys, etc. in FS9.HMMMMMMMMMM.....I assume FS9 didn't have this right in the first place?CB
June 18, 200520 yr Hi,Yes, it does. In a METAR lower vis to 1/2SM and apply it.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 18, 200520 yr Jim, Yes, but that has been my whole point during all of my posts. Visibility is visibility, and ceiling is ceiling. Vis is easy to replicate, and I frequently can't see the end of the runway, or the next taxiway with 1/4SM vis. But, when's the last time that you saw the tower shrouded with clouds, or immediately after starting the tekoff roll, you went into a cloud. Not low vis, but the actual clouds that you see after you takeoff, and they go down to the deck, shroud buildings in SFO, or fill valleys. It also seems to occur in spot view. There is always a "sphere of visibility" around the aircraft. True when Vis is put low, you can be in the soup. But, if you set any cloud layer, and put vis high, like 15-20SM, you can never get clouds until you takeoff and climb. But, in RW, there are times when the top of the tower can't be seen or the beacon is clearly above the bottom layer of the fog while 7-10sm of visibility is reported (marine layer on West Coast for example). Just never seen that a cloud right in the middle of the runway in FS while getting ready for takeoff. I see it off airport all the time though. Clouds looked sheared off by the land everywhere else because they are so low. HOW ABOUT A FAQ STICKY ON THE FORUM? Read below. Jim, to be helpful, so that customers understood FS limitations, and do not confuse them with ASV shortcomings, would you guys have time to put together a quick and dirty little list on a sticky on your forum telling us what limitations in ranges, etc. that you are aware of, or became aware of in FS9 as you programmed ASV and AS 2004.5? For example, that FS does not see visibility over 20SM, or high clouds are only shown over the airport, which is why we get the high pockets of clouds just over the aiport. ETC. Might eliminate a lot of confusion, and a lot of posts for you! Because we know FS9 has limitations, but I don't really think we know how many.CBCB
