ASV, WideFS, and Cloud Textures, what is the real procedure

Featured Replies

OK, I've read the last 6 days of post about ASV and I cannot understand why HiFi Sim has yet to publish a comprehensive manual for just WideFS users. We always get about 1 paragraph in the read me files and 1 paragraph in the users manual, yet there are always numerous questions surrounding the use of activesky and widefs and with this version ASV and all the new textures and AE, It's near impossible to figure out what to do to ensure the program operates and is configured correctly for use on a network, with FS9 not even on the same computer with ASV.I have been using WideFS for 4 yrs, with both activesky and FSMeteo and Squawkbox. just tell me one thing, I don't want ASV to mess with my FS9 installation by overwriting default FS9 Textures. If ASV is on a 2nd computer and I enable Mips in ASV then how is ASV going to back up my FS9 Textures when it's not even on the same computer. Do I need to manually back up my FS9 Textures folder so I can revert back to FS9 Textures if I get sick of ASV and want to quit using it. Or will ASV just send the textures it needs over the network and leave my FS9 installation intact. Your users manual is not clear on anything concerning WideFS except for installing the Radar, which I don't even use. So where is the support for all of us widefs users, that just want to get online weather with updated METARS and realistic weather enroute. To heck with all the homemade weather for non online flights.Sorry to sound so frustrated, but when you purchase a program, and then have to spend the next 3 days searching this forum for answers to basic questions, just hoping that someone else may ask the right question that covers your needs.

Ok, well I answered one of my own questions. I started ASV on my Client PC. First actual start up of the program. It asked me to tell it where my FS9 folder was located, and it opened a browse window. I Browsed to my shared FS9 folder thru MY Network and selected the FS9 Folder. ASV started making a backup of my FS9 Folder, All went well. I then opened the Options Screen and selected online mode and left all else at default. Then I enabled Mip Maps and it converted the ASV Textures to Mip Map, took about 5 mins. Yes I do have ImageTool.exe in my ASV/AE folder. Ok, so my frustration led to determination at figuring this out. Now is there any other pertinent information I should know to make this work over WideFS and get the actual ASV textures to show up on my FS PC ?Ya know, I search these forums religiously for information before posting, I've been using activesky over Widefs for a long time and don't believe I've made a single post. The program (ASV) looks like it will be a great add on, only hope it dosen't drag the sim FPS down to nothing. I'll Give it a whirl

Hi,You should be good to go! If you do experience a major slow down, please post! We would love to help and please don't wait a week and post that this @#$%@! program won't work. We are here everyday and we don't want ANYONE to get to that point. And we don't want to hear about those "me too" users who never have tried to get help!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
