Cloudedge

Featured Replies

Hi, I know problem of the FS9 horizon has been raised before. Can anyone suggest settings that will alleviate the sharp cloud edge which occurs towards the horizon - see attachment. In this case I have the following settings in FS and ASV:Sight distance 120 mlCloud draw distance 80 ml (max)min Vis 0Max vis 59 (default)Disable vis graduation uncheckedDepict FS9 haze layer checkedAs you can see from the metar at the top (offline applied to all stations) the cloud is OVC at 080. The view is from the aircraft at 050. I have tried various values for these parameters with no real change except some bring the edge closer to you. Surely if the cloud is being drawn out to 80 miles the curvature of the earth should take its base below the horizon - I haven't done the math. I'm not looking for a solution that masks the horizon with lower cloud as I'll get that in the foreground also and I would like to see the ground. I guess its an FS problem rather than ASV?Mervyn

Hi Jim,Thanks for the advice. I've tried 40 already and it's still very evident there's an edge.Mervyn

Thanks Jim, I really hope he can do something. Maybe FS10? :-) Mervyn

Yes, the ultimate answer to the question is FS10, as the cloudedge problem appears to be a carryover from the FS9 weather display. The only way I've found to get rid of the edge is to set maximum visibility to 30 miles. This does leave you flying in rather restricted visibility all the time, especially at high altitude but any value above this and the edge of the world is visible.David.
