July 10, 200520 yr Hi, I am interested in Activesky, I have heard so many great things about it, but my question is do you guys provide like a demo, or a 30 day return or something. I want to try it before buying (to evaluate if its what I want, check out fps hits on my different a/c, etc, etc). I searched your website/forums couldnt really find anything, thanks a lot!
July 10, 200520 yr Hi,No demo, sorry. We just didn't get around to it. Refunds are granted only if the software fails to run on your system. We provide many options and one-on-one help for users experiencing performance issues.Edit: Your system is pretty high end so I would say you would be OK.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
July 10, 200520 yr That is a shame, its my opinion that for products like these its best to offer a demo or something, for my exact reasons, it is still under consideration, thanks for the info Jim
July 11, 200520 yr Hi Andras,I understand your concerns. However, almost certainly it will be a particular weather configuration that will slow down your PC, not AS per se. You can get a reasonable idea of how your sim will behave in a worst case scenario by setting up, say, a heavy overcast with good visibility underneath, then check your FPS. It is likely AS will provide better frame rates than FS in particular situations as the program is optimised to deal efficiently with a wide range of weather scenarios.BR,Frank
July 11, 200520 yr oh wow dude you just convinced me. When I bought my ATR 72 from F1 it comes with a weather scenario, low ceilings, thunderstorms, rain, bad visibility, the works. I still got good FPS from that (27 locked at 27). I didnt realize that AS also optimizes, I think I will go buy it soon! Thanks you guys!
July 11, 200520 yr Hi Andras,Didn't realise you'd be so easy to convince! :-)Try your weather scenario with GOOD visibility + lots of clouds. That's the one can cause trouble because FS has to draw clouds AND draw your scenery into the distance, as well. In any case, it's very likely that different wx scenarios will give you different frame rates, so don't pin your hopes on always having 27 FPS! My point was that it is weather in general that can lead to frame rate drops in FS, not a program like AS, which has many configuration options to allow you get the best out of it.By the way, I should point out that I am referring to AS 4.5, not the new ASV, which I haven't purchased yet.BR,Frank
July 11, 200520 yr Is it safe to assume that with the new ASV performance will be up-ed somewhat due to new optimization techniques? I will have to try that set up, thanks!
July 11, 200520 yr I'm sure optimization is always in the minds of the AS developers, but I'll leave others to comment on the new implementation.BR,Frank
July 11, 200520 yr Thanks for all your info Frank, became very useful. I tried out your scenarioOvercast (8/8) thunderstorms all 3D at 6000 ft with light rainKEWR - with MegasceneryPMDG 737-800 w/ FS2CrewI my frames never dipped below 26 locked at 28, I just found out what my system can do! I am confident now that ASV will be a good investment.
July 11, 200520 yr Thanks Frank!! I couldn't say too much more then what I did already, but a customer can have a great affect!!Edit: And thanks for the purchase and the chance to try us out!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
