How do I get offline sequencing to work?

Featured Replies

So the way I understand it... offline sequencing is supposed to take a series of separate WX .dat files (say 00Z, 01Z, 02Z, and 03Z) and load them up as you fly a route, so that you are using weather from the more recent 03Z DAT file instead of relying on the TAF from the 00Z DAT file. Right? If so, then how does this work? Because apparently for me it isn't. Here's a step-by-step of what I am doing... and maybe someone can point out to me what I need to change? So after creating a flightplan I start ActiveSky and press the download button.I enter in the hours I want, plus some subsequent hours (Say I want 00Z and then download the next 5 hours). At this point, ASV will download all the WX files, and activate the LAST one (in the example, 06Z). A small dialog box comes up and says it's done downloading, and that 00Z will be used as default. However, in the ASV window it says the active WX is 06Z.So I then import and process the flightplan in ASV... all the while using 06Z weather. Then I load up the sim- and set up my flight in the "Create a Flight" section. Then I press "refresh' in ASV, wait until it says "Waiting for FS to load" (or whichever message sounds like that)At that point I press the "fly now" button in FS and load the flight. ASV starts refreshing, and I'm in the sim with weather. Usually the weather will be for KSEA so I need to press refresh one more time and then re-refresh the AI after I have proper weather loaded.Using the above... it seems like I'm still using weather for 06Z, not 00Z like it should. As a result the weather I see is a TAF-processed METAR 18 hours in advance (06Z going all the way round to 00Z).So I started using a different procedure...Create a flightplan, start FS, and set up flight (but do not start the flight)Start ASV, download weather. If I do this I think it it actually loads 00Z as the active WX rather than 06Z, after downloading all weather 00Z through 06Z.Then I import and process the flightplan in ASV.Press refresh, wait for the "waiting for FS" messagePress "fly now" in FS9The flight will load, and the initial weather written in by ASV will be for the correct airport at the correct time, using the correct WX file (00Z in my example). The problem comes in now during flight. I will, after flying for say 4 hours, go look at the ASV main window. It will still show 00Z as the active weather, despite it being 4 hours later. So I presume it is using the TAFs from the 00Z DAT file and not the updated WX file 04Z like it should. How do I set it up such that I can download a series of WX files (00Z through 06Z) and have ASV load the next active weather every hour of the flight?P.S. my options are set as follows:Online Updates are set to OFF (because I fly "in the past", where my FS time will not match real-world time)TAF processing is ONUse System time is OFF (again, because I fly "in the past")Enable Offline Sequence Playback is ONPlease help me out... I love ASV as it is but I will love it SO much more if I can get it to sequence weather properly!Ruahrc

Update... following the 2nd set of procedures I posted (where I start FS9 before starting ASV) and downloading a series of weather (say 00Z-06Z) it will still say in the dialog that 00Z is the active WX but in the "Active WX" readout in the ASV main window- it reads the last WX it downloaded (06Z)And the METARs do reflect the correct time, however they say ASV AUTO GENERATED or whatever it says in the RMK sectino of the METAR indicating that is generated from the 00Z TAF.Had another look at the documentation but did not see detailed instructions to set it up the way I am looking for. Would you mind posting some step-by-step instructions on how to get ASV set up properly? Perhaps there is an error in my setup procedures.Ruahrc
