Thunderstorm density in AS V.

Featured Replies

G'dayJust writing to make both an observation of my experience in both FS9 and comparing it to real life regarding the density of CB generation using AS V.From using AS V since its release using the default options i was a little surprised about the lack of cells being generated when in ASV.I did a few tests and even modding a metar and TAF to indicate OVC CB with TSGR i would only get 3-4 cells within 20-20 nm of the airport.Using the wx configurator would lead to the same results.Yep there was lightning and thunder but only about 3-4 anvils in sight. Now from my real world experience a met report of OVC will mean there will be a lot more than 3-4 active cells in sight and in the vicinity of the airport. At the moment from where i sit it seems that the currect storm production is more like sct rather than ovc.I use my 3d clouds at 100% and 70 nm sight range with vis at 60nm is ASV.SO i am wondering is there any way to "beef" up the wx engine to create more cells and make it somewhat more alive. As as the moment with a sct report of CB's you will see one or maybe two and it is from where i am making the weather a fair bit to friendly compared to real life.Part of this no doubt is the wx engine from FS9 which makes storms only 3-5 nm across and in real life large cells and supercells i have seen have been 25-50nm in diameter.ANyway if there is a way to create a more intense CB environment i'd love to know because it just seems a little light on compared to real life.Great product!!ChersDarren Howie

Thanks Jim i'll give those a go.Darren
