Does this look right (visibility)?

(Edit: I should have skimmed the postings. I now see one below about "haze." I'll be reading it, to see if I learn anything. For now, I'll leave the rest of the post as it was.)The past few days I've been flying in a constant haze. See the picture below, where I paste the ASV weather info over what I'm seeing out the cockpit window. It just doesn't look right to me.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/123748.jpgI know almost nothing about how to "tweak" ASV. Am I missing something simple?Basil

Looks like a good representation of what you would see with 9SM visibility. Albeit your query brings up an interesting question of my own. The METAR reports ceilings in AGL. In various situations I have encountered the reported ceilings being accurate sometimes and sometimes not. Also what method is used for enroute weather depiction? Is it the area forecast? I hope so as this could duplicate accurate conditions in addition to relying on station based reporting. Maybe this will alleviate the harsh visibility transitions. What is the "FS9 haze layer" and why would I want it, or not?I think another thing that might have been going on, after reading the other thread, is the "suppression layer." It was set to 10000. I fly GA, and don't fly that high unless I have to. I've spent the past few days well below it, hopping from place to place. Does it mean what it sounds like, then, that in-sim weather was never being updated because I was never above 10000? Will this prevent updates once on the ground?Basil

HiDo you see the benefits of using the area forcast? Is this in any way possible? The reason even someone with the proper settings is subject to harsh visibility changes is because of station based reporting. If KHPN is reporting 7sm visibility and KDXR is reporting 10SM the weather harshly changes despite the short distance or vice versa. Its very alarming to be decending from one of the flight levels with unlimited visibility to suddenly 15 miles out 5SM in haze. Can a haze layer be defined (i.e. OVC HZ 050) so that it will only extend up to a certain altitude like real life?

Hi,I understand what you are saying. It is a condition in FS04 that for 2 years now, nobody has been able to overcome. Not us, not Weather Maker, not FS Meteo, not default FS04 weather. Yes, you can draw haze at any altitude, but once you get above that level guess what will happen? If the vis. jumps from below 10 to 10 or more, that change is going to take place. Is it due to station based weather? I don't think so. We could fire up ASwxRE which forces global weather and the same thing is going to happen. Why? Because of the limitations of FS04.I know many of us can't wait for FS10 to see if MS fixes this!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
